1. Carmel is a mess. A truly awful woman. If she's not moaning in the pub where shes at more than she is her own home, she's moaning on the market or the cafe or in the minute mart . She needs to go!!

I used to love Carmel when she first came in but they've made her character so hard to sympathise and like. She's just a martyr and bad person I think. Her turning her back on her so-called BFF Denise when Denise needed her most during her adoption decision (I know she's made up for it since but she was a really bad friend to her at the start), her whole saga with Masood and the way she acts like it's everyone but her who's in the wrong has just made me see her in a really different light. I don't enjoy the Kazemi's at all tbqh, a pretty ****e bunch of characters besides Kush.

The only thing that bothers me about Carmel is that she runs a house in London and is a single mother on one wage and can still afford to go to The Vic every night.

Not to mention that anyone who gets up as early as she must do with that bloody morning routine she described to us is not going to want to finish work and go to the pub until late!

The fact that over half the Square can afford the houses they live in is laughable. They'd easily be worth half a million at least irl.

I think the problem is she was brought in to aid Kush's storyline.

Then she proved a hit so they brought her in as a regular.
However, for ages she was just a background character, then Shabnam quit, leaving Kush's storyline stuck, then the change in producers who largely decided to ignore Kush and then suddenly Camel one of the few female characters alongside Denise in the show and they're like "Sh*t we haven't developed her character much and we have all this screen time to fill." So she's become a character that has no defined personality or story, and simply is the one to react/comment/add to other stories such as Stacey/Arthur, the Shakil stuff, as Denise's friend, now the market inspector etc resulting in a very muddled characterisation where she has 45 personalities and lots of contradictions.

A bit of a ramble but it made sense in my head.

I was talking to my friend on the bus about this over day,

Apaz The Fowlers house would be worth £2000 PCM.

And Martin with his veg stall is the only income the house has.

So his wage pays for £2K rent, bills, and for 3 children.

Maybe we should all runs stalls.

I do get what you mean and I do agree. Her character would've been better as an Elaine type I think (just popping up every now and again) or just a nice matriarchal character. They've compeletely ruined her though. I think you're right too, it's by having her having to put her two ****ing p's in everyone's business, just cos they're desperate for some characterison.

I think that's what they're attempting to address with the recent stories.
Jack coming back as a property developer so even more of the Square is becoming tiny flats (still expensive but more realistic for people like Whitney/Lee than a full on house), student accommodation and also I've noticed they've stuck non speaking extras in a lot of the empty houses and stuff.

Then there's Max and the Chairman/Fi Browning who I think are going to bring in more middle class/business type people who are more likely to live in places like a London square.

I hope it doesn't change too much though, as unrealistic as it is.

Still rent is very high, a decent semi detached house in about zone 3/4 costs like 3K a month to rent.

This is a fair point TBH, I don't like SOC but at least he does think of things more realistically than some producers such as this.

I'm worried for Fi Browning, middle class characters are always hated by the residents of Walford

Well, the Carter's own the Vic, Jack owns R&R's old house and the Branning's old house which is now flats. Ian/Kathy/Jane/Lauren/Steven live in the owned Beale house. Denise or Kim or Patrick (I can't remember who signed to who) own half the old B&B, the other house it was joined onto was sold and is now lived in by an off screen character.

Carmel rents Masood's old house, Stacey and Martin rent Pat's old house.

Billy and Honey rent a flat, Ben and Jay rent a flat.

Oh and Dot's house is rented off the council, but she's been there FOREVER so it's not unrealistic that she's remained there. But then she survived the bedroom tax.
