Well, if you've read any of my posts, you'll know I'm not now, nor will I ever be, a fan of Starmer. That said, I don't see what he's done wrong.

I can pretty much guarantee he's been in contact with all of the families, and I would guess photo ops in the present climate would only antagonise the situation further, and this is right in the heat of what was happening over the weekend.

I don't know really know anything about these suffering families, but I did see a post on X from one of the little girls fathers, and he doesn't support the rioters.

As for Starmers phrasing, there is no issue whatsoever as far as I'm concerned.

Things do get a bit murky for me, because I understand the financial despair of the rioters, but not the racism part. Britain has left people behind. Badly. I've said it before, but Corbyn was the last hope for this country before things got really bleak, and here we are. Not because he's an unimpeachable dude, but because he's the only politician who actually wanted to begin to address the inequality, and that's why he was falsely smeared into oblivion. We had an option to address the problem, and we didn't.


My way of looking at the situation would be to hold those with power to account, the far right way, is to blame foreigners and immigrants for everything. Bit like a matador waving the red flag in front of the bull. It's all misdirection aimed to shield the government from scrutiny. Now that the country is really fcuked, we've seen both lab and Tories use the language of blaming immigrants, because they are not interested in the in doing the right thing, instead they mouth platitudes about "tough choices" and take it out on those with the least in society, rather than asking those with the most to take the hit, for once.

Norway has a sovereign wealth fund of over a trillion dollars, which they've built from taxing energy companies at 78%. They use that money to subside bills for it's population, and investing in infrastructure rather than cutting more and more services every time we get a new government.

Osbourne was on TV the other day praising Rachel Reeves for continuing his austerity, saying this is the exact budget he would be implementing. We've run out of things to cut, so the only way the country get's moving is with investment, and that isn't happening anytime soon.

All quiet on the Western front in Bristol so far. Cycled past some of the sites where trouble is rumoured but no signs of anything yet although it is eerily quiet around. Police seem to have dismissed a lot of rumours but they are expecting something outside a legal office in Old Market so all the businesses round there have been boarded up all day which is quite depressing on what is normally a very vibrant street. Also going to be a large counter protest there.

Sad to see a lot of people of ethnic background asking if the city is safe for them and having to second guess all their movements. I've had a few colleagues say for the first time in their lives they've questioned whether they should go out as usual as well - speaking in general terms not just specifically when protests are planned.
