Posting a .GIF as a humorous response to something is fine. When it's done well, it can be absolutely hilarious. Posting them all the time cheapens the effect. It's like that guy who posts only in the form of poetry - what used to be quite an interesting thing to read quickly became a boring gimmick that few people bother to read because every single post is done in the same style. That's what people are getting at, Salman, nobody's saying you've ruined the site or that posting .GIFs isn't funny or acceptable - it can be really, really funny if it's done sparingly, but if you rely on a gimmick all the time then people accept it as the norm and don't find it funny anymore.

Personally I don't think there are any problems with the site as it is, though, content-wise. Sure, some of the forum icons could do with a 2013 upgrade, and there are minor things here and there that need changing - I'd reintroduce the 3 strikes and out system and I really miss having the karma system because I think it encouraged people to make good, interesting and witty posts - but those things were lost when the site changed to a new format... but for the most part it's still a place I enjoy posting on (evidently, I've been here for over 8 years! ) and I find that you get out what you put in on this site - if you're expecting to be entertained then you need to go sign up to forum games or the pub quiz or start a thread about something. There aren't as many people creating new threads as there used to be, because people haven't taken on the role of creating new threads as other people have dropped off the radar. The site is still full of activity, there are lots of people around, it's just that the regular faces change over time and a lot of people get stuck in the past and can't accept the change.

Even at that though take that thread I had to post a warning in last night for an example, some members might have actually want a decent discussion in that thread but it turned into a complete mess of constant gifs, do you honestly not see how that's a bit unfair on other members? it doesn't really matter who makes a thread everyone is entitled to post in them without having to scroll past all of that.

I'm not sure Ammi would've liked this thread to go down this route... all I've to say is different people from different walks of life will not get others humour. And regarding the gifs, I thought posting the same gif will take up less loading time than many different ones and I think it's quite acceptable to post them alongside comments towards a subject (taking the music thread for example) as it can show ones emotion towards anothers point in the discussion better than any smiley ever could.

I do think they're getting overused now in some areas (me to blame in some instances, yes..) but I see no harm if they are used in context with ones view, I understand that spamming them can become over tiresome for some in irrelevant areas. I would never go rampaging into a sports/debate/news etc thread spamming gifs because there's a time and a place of which I think chat & games and music discussions are both acceptable places as the people in some of these threads are the same ones that would agree with me here. An example of a recent thread is the halloween gifs, I think it'd be a good idea to warn people if there may be many gifs in a thread. I'm not biting at anyone I just was seeing this thread being thrown my direction and wanted to get my view across.
