Sadly, have to agree with those who see the homophobia sort of rearing it's ugly head here. Of course, even as an Ann supporter I know that her views are rooted in her Catholic background. You can't be Catholic and divorce those very specific values from your faith simply because they are inconvenient or controversial. If she stands for her faith, then that's where she stands on the issue(s) and I think kinda naive to try to give her a pass on that simply because of her other more virtuous (if not pious) qualities...

I don't know that Ann even sees the harm in what she has said. She may very well have been joking or referring to something more indifferent, but then there's the something to be said about there being a grain of truth in every joke or having a Freudian slip.

She has been quite open about her controversial beliefs about these issues, so I think rather than trying to craft a protective barrier around what she may or may not actually have meant (which I don't know that any of us really know), ask yourself if it is even possible she may not even care how it is interpreted... she doesn't seem to shy away from discourse/controversy on any subject, even if it offends others, so I think instead of trying to make out what she said, maybe consider she is not all that concerned about whether it sends a more negative tone about homosexuality...

I hope she is interviewed on it when she is out, because I'm curious how she deals with the cognitive dissonance that her beliefs no doubt create in this type of atmosphere (with Andrew/Courtney). Especially with her relationship with Amanda. But I think also really unfair to judge any one person entirely based on their opinions on a single issue... unless of course that goes against something you are rather (non-literally) religiously against.. but then you know, we are in a world where we are surrounded by conflicting belief systems... it's fine to pick and choose with strangers on the internet, but much more difficult out in real life to discriminate and screen barriers in a similar manner.. but I guess we live in a society now where that sort of discrimination really is actually the new normal, that we are all being "screened" for perceived slights or incompatible thought systems... Ann didn't grow up in that kind of world. She grew up in a society where we were encouraged to get on regardless in what was considered quite tolerant for those times, even while believing most others were terrible sinners. So other people's moral fixations on the particular words or verbiage she uses is probably all quite ambivalent and alien to her (in retrospect)

She has also said the same to Ashley about her & Geniwine. It was said to get a response and it did. It is obvious anyone who doesnt like her will jump on it as Homophobia rather than her not wanting to see or hear them slurping under the duvet!

My feeling is they were trying to get her to relax a little bit, see them as simple down-to-earth human beings, and less like zoo animals trying to fornicate all over the house. I'm not so sure they are the characters suited to this quite difficult task of changing Ann's mind on homosexuality...

I really cant do with people who refuse to see the bigger picture, there was NO way Ann said that in regards to them being gay,it was Shane saying she could WATCH their love grow,now you might find that entertaining, but some people don't,it was as simple as that,why do people make mountains out of molehills just to make their fave look good.

He wasn't joking, he was provoking.

I think a lot of people are confusing her religious views on marriage being for man and woman and the procreation of children to genuine hate for gay people and I think this is extremely misguided and on this thread is verging on hysteria. If you have a problem with her views, go wave your banners at the pope. It's a taught doctrine and that's the man with the power to change the church. There is quite a list of other things you could take up with him while you are there.

If she was genuinely homophobic she wouldn't like Shane J as much as she does or want to interact with him. That doesn't mean that she has to put up with their little games and thrusting a potential relationship in her face to try to cause a reaction.

I'm not homophobic but I'm not particularly interested in watching two men have sex, kiss or canoodle, or anyone else for that matter.

Exactly. He wouldn't have asked the question if he wasn't looking for some type of response. I can see where she may have felt compelled to stick to her guns, hence the blatant "uh no disgusting" to get the message across she stood pretty strongly on those views. Afterall, decorum (Ann's version of it) and her reputation to her is paramount back home. I thought maybe his intention was to get a middle of the road response, to see if he could "crack" her to get her to come to some common ground on her generally staunch viewpoints... but instead it made her look terrible, which was probably fine for him because that was Plan B, to get her to say something to lose votes with the public instead.

However she reacted, it was more than likely going to be perceived as a win for ShaneJ/Courtney.

A phobia means a fear, she doesn't fear gay people as she's not uncomfortable to be around them.
