Thanks you Jackie. Someone else recognises this. Lots of old threads are popping up for no particular reason really, it's quite annoying, to be honest.

Yes, definitley. I'm glad Kiz has brought up this thread actually, it's good to know what other people think on the issue as well.

I'm not too sure really, there are a few people who do just post randomness and make endless polls, which irritates me (no names needed ). I don't think I'm a culprit though...although I do post quite frequently on the +1-1 threads.

The majority of new members are annoying and constantly break the rules. The regulars are a nice bunch, why can't the newbies be aswell?
They're wrecking the forum. Maybe if they ruin the forum anymore the admins should consider locking new member registrations.

thanks a lot matthew i just joined and this is what i see? a thread slagging off new members, how charming! should i go back from the door i came in through, just to make older members feel better bout themselves. I am not here to be annoying or break rules and i'm happy to make friends with more established members, but this opinion stinks id say

Who's wrecking this forum? it looks fine to me.

okay Matthew, i take your point but I just didnt like the idea you have of locking new members registrations, it sounded like you wanted to keep new members from joing this forum, so the older members can have it all to themselves thats all, hardly seems fair

When people have been around for a long time on here, it's a shame to see a minority of new members ruining the forum for the rest, that's all. Your a nice and friendly new member

So what if its annoying, but, Thats the part of a forum, If its old or new its still something to talk about and that that member may be interested in.

I can understand why you may be anoyed.

Can't agree more, most of the new members ruin the forum, the registrations should close for a long time, just in order for thing to calm down a little bit and to have en enjoyable forum to read.

No offence new members, but I was one of the first member here, with Matthew and more to claim that and to open our mouths about it, it's not against new members in general, we've made a conclusion and we found out that new members take part in 80% in the damages.

I can't think offhand about any positive reasons for having a post count, and I think we should do away with todays top poster on the main page. As this most probably won't happen, I suggest all the -1/+1 games be moved to chat and games where they belong. Maybe Mark would like to have some input on this debate?

Firstly new members to this site will always be welcomed with open arms, they have every right to regsiter and join this forum in the same way each of us did when we were "newbies" we all have equal status here whether we have been here 3 years or 3 hours. When do people stop being a newbie? who decides that? in my eyes those that joined in the last 12 months are newbies still so hey!!

Another point is I think Kiz was right to open this thread and made a few great suggestions but I for one as a MOD would not want the extra responsibility of deciding if someones post was any good, I just dont think thats my role on this forum at all.

I think we all need to be more tolerant of each other, I think those longer term members could offer gentle guidance and support to newer members rather than jumping on them for the things they do wrong.

Well we aren't jumping on them, we have been always nice with them, we do help them when they don't know how to post etc... but when they do that during more than a month, that's quite annoying isn't it ?
Of course we will welcome us with open arms, but they have to respect the rules, respect the different opinions, respect the others and don't make stupid threads or being obsessed by their post count.

I wouldn't say that if it was only 2 or 3 members but it does happen at all the time and for ages, so it does annoy me and I'm not the only one.

The Locking registration thing isn't a bad idea (Don't Flame me)
I mean on another forum I'm on, the registrations get opened the first week of every month so people still get to join, it also lowers the viagra bots aswell.
How about that as a idea.

I do agree with Ruth, closed registration is a good idea, like in demonoid, too much members kill members.

Thats a good idea Ruth.
I agree Sunshine30, a more personnal forum is a much happier forum.

When new members sign up, why not stop them from posting for the first week of there stay. That way, they can expect the forum in closer detail.

P.S - I was reading the forum a year before i decided to sign up!

Some great points Remy and Ruth. Hopefully the new registration thing will be changed so that people can only sign up once a month or something.

My Idea...

Cut Post counts all together

Then allow people signed up for one week be allowed to post 30 posts, Two weeks 60 posts, three weeks 60 posts, and four weeks unlimited posts. This might get members taught to only posting reasonable posts.

That might not work because they'll still post useless things with their 30 posts.

I think new members being able to join when they wish makes TiBB a much friendlier place though. And it welcomes diversity and different sorts of people to talk to... to be honest I feel the main problem is simply people not settling down. I think in time they'll most likely get bored of posting or too busy to post constantly just for the sake of it. Often it's just the novelty that's exciting.
