There was a crisis before the leadership election which put Truss in.

However she was incompetently deluded.
Then added bigtime to the crisis.

I don't envy Sunak and Hunt on this.
Plus from their soundings it seems things are worse possibly than even they thought.
My fears are for the poorest and most vulnerable also sick and disabled.
I do hope they really set out to ensure full protection for them.

However the pain now to come for those working families in the middle could be equally unbearable.

from what i can gather, the tax increases are going to come from freezing tax thresholds over the coming years and spending cuts are going to come from not increasing the cash services get with inflation, so the impact wont be felt really until after the next election.

councils get very nasty if you don't pay. They are quick to send the bailiffs round and start criminal proceedings. So if you are going to pay any bill, that is the one to pay

They're sneaky as well, they do all correspondence by post and don't even send letters on registered delivery or anything. I have a letterbox in my door and one outside my garden and the postmen always mix up which one they use. I only check the one at the garden every few days and found a final reminder to pay my council tax in there or face a court summons. It only gave 7 days to pay from when it was sent as well even though it would have taken a few days to be delivered. By the time I saw it 14 days had passed and I logged onto my account to see they'd prepared a court summons for me

After waiting an hour on hold I eventually got through to someone on the council to persuade them to drop that and I paid what I owed, it is my fault tbf as I'm pretty rubbish at paying and apparently had already had two reminders earlier in the year hence the final warning letter. Seems crazy though when they have my number and email address that they'll only send things by post and when it's not signed for then how do they even know I've received the letter.

The price of some of the most popular branded food items has jumped in just two years, new research suggests, putting further strain on shoppers.

Heinz Tomato Ketchup saw the biggest average percentage increase, with its 460g top-down version up by 53% or 91p, according to Which?

It also found that Dolmio Lasagne Sauce (470g) saw the second-biggest jump, up 61p in two years.

Its survey compared prices of 79 items across six major supermarkets.

The consumer group's findings suggest that the price of some of Britain's favourite branded products might be rising more quickly than the overall cost of living, which is going up at its fastest rate in 40 years.

Inflation, which measures how the cost of living changes over time, currently stands at 10.1%.

Which? analysed the cost of branded food items available in Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose over a 30-day period from 21 September to 20 October in both 2020 and 2022.

Not long to go now. I heard there is a chance they will give out £400.00 Christmas grants to the poor. Fingers crossed for a woman down our road who is really struggling money wise.
