Leaving France is irrelevant, and it's perfectly legal to leave a safe country to claim asylum in a different country altogether. They aren't illegal migrants, as the evidence shows that the overwhelming majority of them have valid claims to asylum.

If they're legal then why are they sneaking in on dinghies? Why don't they just enter through the proper channels?

Seems a bit odd to sneak in risking their lives on dinghies when they can catch the train.

Because people don't legally need to do what you think they should. It also takes years in a hostile environment, when the lives of their families and themselves is probably a little ore important to them than wait and see. Look at all the promises this government made to the Afghanis versus the reality, to understand that a bit more.

They are completely legal. I know that probably seems as though it can't be true, when we're spoon fed the nonsense that they're illegal every day, but it's true.
