'It's all political': British Eurovision loser Michael Rice's family and fans blame Brexit for humiliating last place finish - without a single vote from Ireland - as the Netherlands romps home with a song that's already been a hit

We got 3pts from Ireland though... in the televote
![]() For all my defences of Eurovision and the mythological bloc-voting there are definitely some that need a shake up: 1) Belarus' jury were apparently dismissed by Eurovision... but their vote still counted to the total? they were the ones who voted for literally every of the 10 countries that were last at the time Idk wtf happened there.2) Greece/Cyprus need to be sanctioned, their voting statistics are HIGHLY suspect lmao. As of 2018, Greece received a total of 324pts from Cyprus. Their next highest "friend" is Spain... on 119pts and the other way, Cyprus have taken 283pts from Greece. Their next highest total? Malta and the UK... on 88pts There's just not enough done about this obvious BS. Usually their songs are strong enough to merit it, or we just turn the other cheek... but it's ridiculous.3) The Yugoslav bloc is the biggest problem, with Serbia/Montenegro/Macedonia all voting for each other religiously. Kosovo aren't yet a competitor but you can expect them to join in if they can. 4) Similar to the Greek/Cypriot issue, there is a tiresome dependability on Denmark and Sweden trading top marks for each other, but as I said, theirs are usually 2 of the best entries anyway. Otherwise there isn't really much of an issue... we can't whinge about neighbour voting when we expect points from Ireland and our ex-pats in Australia, Malta and Spain every year.

I'd create blocks of countries where youd not be allowed to vote on others in the same block as your country. |

This is the type of song that would win it for the UK - we need to be thinking like this

Ok hi so just some opinions. I loved the Netherlands entry, but didn't think it was win worthy, having said that I'm not against it winning congrats to them.
I honestly think Australia was my favourite and was surprised it didnt even make it into the top 3 I thought it was that good. Other ppl saw differently maybe. Best message in a song would probably be France or Italy for me. The BBC did much better on the promotion side before the show itself so I'm glad about that. I accept we cant do anything that well in the show until the Brexit thing gets buried. Fair play to Michael, but also I preferred freaks at the selection show Iceland and Madonna bringing the obvious issue to the foreground of the show makes me glad it wasnt just swept under the rug. Overall a good year and I'm gonna try and get to next years show

Brexit has had no impact on our performance: Lucie Jones literally went the year after the vote with a song called "I Will Never Give Up On You" and still did reasonably well, finishing 15th. Admittedly, we were screwed over by the televote (just 12pts of our 111 total were from the public) but
this was a strong year (Occidentali's Karma, Amor Pelos Dois, I Can't Go On, Beautiful Mess, City Lights, Hey Mamma!, Yodel It!)The year after, we really could've capitalised on the sympathy vote with the stage invasion but SuRie had to be a pussy but otherwise it was a weak song with a basic message. And we've been sending those long before the referendum result.
