Meat is Murder. Not just of animals who fight the knife as any human would fight the knife, but of ourselves and of the planet.
Many of the world's leading climate change scientists agree farming of meat animals contributes to one third of the world's greenhouse gasses. Most deforestation occurs to find more land for meat production. There are many websites which will show how much water is used to produce 1 kilo of meat or milk. It's beyond belief we humans allow our own destruction when it is so easily avoided. I stopped eating meat after watching the DVD Earthlings. I was appalled. I never even thought of animals and I called myself an animal lover. I was a total hypocrite.
As someone in the medical field and with several science degrees to my name I've read many studies which link animal and dairy products to cancer and heart disease. It is the major cause. In Australia the Heart Foundation is now recommending no meat on tv commercials. Only the marketing hype of the meat and dairy industry keeps alive the myth that meat and milk are healthy.
Violence to animals is linked in many studies to violence to people. I found it easy to stop eating meat. Every vegan I've met said it was easy to stop. We now have Animal Law in our Universities, the next step in ending their abuse. Acting kindly to animals instead of butchering them and abusing them in every way humans know how will be the start of a kinder world. If we can care for creatures that are so alien to us, we begin the journey to caring about those who are not so different. Many of the foremost advocates for animals were also advocating for the end of abuse to humans.
Only non-compassionate, non-caring humans or the truly ignorant and apathetic could eat meat. The information is so widely available now there is no excuse to remain ignorant and to choose not to care.
A hundred years ago slavery of negroes was acceptable. Less than 50 years ago child abuse was acceptable. Women's rights were non existent. Animal rights is the next great social justice movement. The fact that meat farming and dairy farming are so closely linked to climate change is a godsend for animals. In the current environmental awareness climate, and the awareness of cancer causes and causes of obesity and other diseases such as diabetes, animals might finally get the break they need to break the cycle of animal holocaust. Stop the animal holocaust. Go Veg. Stop the horror in which every meat eater and milk drinker is complicit.

if you were brought up a veg and no meat was available to you and you had no idea we eat animals do you think we would crave meat or look at the cat in a funny way?

It is murder, and people who say it isnt "Its Tasty" are horrible people!

I eat Meat because I`ve always ate it and it would be hard not to..
Not because its Tasty because there is Nicer foods..

But because its hard to go a week without looking at meat or having Meat in a day, We have Meat in our Lunch Sandwiches and stuff like that,

So its hard not too..

But to the people who say Its Nice and Not Wrong, They wouldnt be sayen that if they were a cow or a Pig about to be MURDERED

You are an absolute moron. You eat meat so don't preach to us that think meat is tasty. If you feel you HAVE to eat meat because it's "everywhere" then you're worse than those who choose to eat it.

It isn't murder. We're designed to eat meat and have been doing so since we've been put on this planet.

I honestly think at this day and age its not a must need, but honestly who cares? we need them we are all selfish. What we should care about is innocent people dieing then we can care about animals,aliens and on and on.

& I'm sure people saying "humans > animals" wouldn't be so smug if aliens came along and ate us claiming "aliens > humans".

I dont see why people feel the need to explain why they eat meat.

And why is 'its tasty' not a valid reason?

I'm not saying that people should or need to defend why they eat meat.But if you are going to bother defending it, then saying "its tasy" is just pathetic in my opinion. Its like randomly killing a cat thats comes into your backyard and defending it by saying "it was fun".

Well i think it being tasty is a very valid reason to eat it.

And its not defending...its just giving a reason why I do.

Though I dont like seeing what they animals go through...but i like meat, and thats it.

Should stop all other animals killing eachother to? Lions shouldn't kill buffalo etc etc..

We are omnivores, we have always eaten meat and always will..

To the people who say people who eat meat should have to kill the animal.

I think you should grow your own veg. But then, why bother when there are people on the other side of the world caught in the poverty trap who will grow it for you. It doesn't matter if they can hardly feed themselves because all the land is turned over to food production for us. Well, as long as you don't think about it.

You can make your own clothes too, but that would put that 7 year old child who works 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for a few dollar a week out of work. Mind, if they wern't working then they may be able to get an education to help escape that pityful life, and we can't have that as we would have to pay more in the shops.

Oh, and while you are at it you can decomission you own old electrical goods using dangerous chemicals and acids to get to the small amount of silver and the like. For you efforts you will get paid just enough to feed your family and your life expectancy halved. Your water supply and land that your family rely on will all so become toxic.

Now, tell me I should not use a farmer and butcher to get my meat and should do it myself.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but bored.

I think if we allow religion into the serious debates section this should be. Sometimes the way humans act i'd rather save animals over them, at least they're innocent. I do eat meat, but I do also believe I could live without mean, possibly one day, who knows...

As long as it's a humane way of killing them I don't really mind, but then again, we don't know how they really die, but I guess free range it sort of a step forward, shame it's more expensive.
