amen! It doesnt matter what outside package that person come in, its al about who they are as a person. And if you get to spend sometimes with that guy, you will know about him. But most of all, I think you should trust, how youve raised your daughter.

Nah I thought that at first but he makes countless threads arguing against multiculturalism (and homosexuality), some of the things he says are straight out of Mein Kampf

All joking aside, when the time comes we (as parents) have to let go and let them make choices - good and bad.

It's one thing to have an opinion on who she chooses, but it's another to force your opinion onto them.

"What of the below would, if you were a Dad, worry you the most if your 17 year old daughter brought home as a new boyfriend (and why)"

that was the thread. What would worry you the most?

Not what after you had got to know the guy after 6 months. Not what in an ideal world, not bearing in mind everyone is lovely.

There is little merit in posting "It doesnt matter what outside package that person come in, its al about who they are as a person. And if you get to spend sometimes with that guy, you will know about him. But most of all, I think you should trust, how youve raised your daughter."

because it is not relevant, it may sound good and make you feel nice but it is not what this thread is about.

This thread is about being a Dad, being responsible for your daughter and making a judgement based on few facts. This is reality not happyland.

You may not have time to get to know the boy/man before a problem (if it) arises, you do not have that luxury. This is why sometimes, like this, "wonderful world" politics are no use.

hence the thread.

Tell that to the Muslims who don't allow their daughters freedom of choice - and there have been several cases here in Britain recently of young Muslim girls being murdered by their own fathers and brothers for daring to have a white, English boyfriend! You are preaching to the wrong people!!

So you say - but you don't hear of other religions behaving in that way towards women. That religion/culture certainly seems to breed misogyny!

yeh actually you do...except not rammed down our throats like the Daily mail do with muslims...and by the way the Swiss have a poor record on womens rights, women only got the vote in 1971 and in some areas only in 1991 and they dont have the same level of equality that we enjoy in Britain! hypocrites or what?

"just a few years ago the Pope issued a statement against those dastardly feminist ideologies that support the crazy notion that men and women are created equal. And last year, the Vatican let any liberal-leaning Catholics know that if they dared to ordain any female priests, the women of God would be immediately excommunicated."

"Unless you want to ban all religious symbols (and probably a slew of capitalist ones too) as emblems of male power that attack women's rights, this argument just doesn't hold water. You can dress up xenophobia and religious intolerance in fancy rhetoric all you want, but that won't change what it is. I'm disappointed to see feminism and women's rights co-opted to undermine religious freedom, when there are so many serious gender problems to attend to."

Well, well we have been doing our homework - busy googling for all we are worth! Not all fact - much is opinion!

For the record - I am not a great fan of the Catholic religion either because of some of the attitudes towards women - but those attitudes are not as extreme and dangerous as many of the Muslim ones - they certainly don't murder women who don't conform in this day and age.

The Catholic and Christian religions are part of British culture - they are not perfect - but they have moved with the times and women have freedoms they didn't have previously - the same does not appear to be the same for most Muslim women. Most other religions freely practice their religious beliefs in their adoptive countries - without constanly ramming it down the throats of the people in those countries - and do not constantly expect special priviledges that go against the culture of that country - in the name of their religious freedoms - ie the wearing of burkhas in public places.

You must be living on the planet zog if you really believe that most British Muslim women and girls have the freedoms and equality the majority of British women have. British women have had to fight hard for the freedoms they have today - and are not about to stand by and see them undermined by other religions that blatantly flaunt their oppressive views and behaviours towards women on the streets of their country.

Seriously, for the people who find this appalling, and have posted on this thread, you cant change the minds of of those who cant. Thats just who they are. We all differ in how we see the world, and enjoy it.

I have seen a lot of good come out of this event. Most people who really matter, have condemned it. In the grand scheme of thinigs, our generation has once again, shown itself, to be against prejudice, and intolerance.
The Swiss will get there.

Oh yes - and only those that agree with you - really matter! The arrogance!

The Swiss have simply shown that they are a force to be reaconed with - and will stand up and be counted! Of course they will be riduculed by those that don't want them to do so. Only to be expected!

Nothing has been undermined, nothing has been forced upon anyone else and nothing will. Oppression against women occurs in all sections of society and the sections of muslim society your talking about, it is their fight and their choice whether they want to fight it. It doesnt affect you and never will.

Human rights abuses occur all around the world and its really to do with with the development of the country, education, wealth, opportunities the ordinary people have, the history of the people and exposure to other cultures etc, nothing to do with race or religion
