I'm with Arteta's Lightbulb on this.
Plus all Arteta stated was his opinion, if someone takes what he says and escalates it into a violent scenario, then that's the individual who is to blame for clearly not getting treatment for mental issues. I'm sick to death of the Media and sections of the public that moan about people daring to critique and demand standards within society/certain fields of entertainment, because if you dare to not watch your P & Q's you'll be accused of one of three things. 1. Some form of prejudice. 2. To use Gary Neville's term, it's "dangerous" as he is clearly insinuating that Arteta could incite a lunatic to start attacking the Referee, thus trying to shutdown any criticism of the Referee's performance during the match. 3. Think of the Referee's "Mental Health" which I think is a real low blow when I have seen people use this argument, because these people are taking an extremely serious situation that a lot of people genuinely go through, just to stop Arteta or anyone else from saying that the Referee and VAR were awful, and that Stevie Wonder would've been better (I've added that part in) Arteta isn't stupid enough to say something like that, unlike myself. ![]() But my point stands that using Mental Health arguments to stop critique of a Referee is really low imo, and the same goes in other fields where Celebrities and their fans try to guilt trip their detractors into not criticizing them because they've got "poor Mental Health" which is really code for "I've got a huge ego and can't handle criticism." Society and the Media both need to have a long hard look at themselves here when it comes to critique, because imo there's a huge difference between critique and verbal abuse being aimed at someone, sadly though some people can't tell the difference between the two going by how Arteta's common sense critique is now so controversial to say.

I mean to be completely fair here, how we never conceded a penalty against Middlesbrough a few games back was an absolute miracle.

He'd see Wayne Rooney at work who couldn't even hold onto a 2-0 lead at home against a newly promoted team.

Arteta did a lot more than voice his opinion
Discrediting referees will do nothing for the game, constantly moaning will do nothing for the game. Thats a fact |

1. To hopefully get them to improve 2. Corruption (which is always a possibility) And even if you don't agree with Arteta speaking out, I think that we can both agree that Gary Neville calling Arteta's comments "dangerous" is just a tad OTT?

In other jobs these Referees would be sacked if they performed really bad like the Referee did in the Newcastle vs Arsenal match. Don't get me wrong I think that Arteta is a hypocrite because he didn't have Klopp's back this season when it happened to Liverpool, but I do agree with him that ultimately standards of officiating in this country needs to improve. I mean Managers get sacked for next to nothing sometimes, yet some Referees get to officiate in the Premier League despite being consistently terrible.

The decision to award Newcastle United's winning goal against Arsenal was correct, according to the Premier League's Key Match Incidents panel.
The five-person panel, which includes three former players and/or coaches, decided there was insufficient evidence to overrule the on-field decision to award Anthony Gordon's goal. However, the panel ruled Arsenal's Kai Havertz should have been sent off for his tackle on Sean Longstaff, while Bruno Guimaraes should also have been shown a red card for hitting Jorginho. The panel, which also includes one representative each from the Premier League and PGMOL, reviews major incidents to assess whether the eventual rulings, including video assistant referee checks, were correct. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67372283 |

How can it be correct when there was a foul leading to the goal? Plus the ball went out of play just before that.
If anything this is just making Arteta's claims stronger.

Well the fact that they're doubling down on what they have got wrong.
This is according to the Football rules as well, not just my opinion. They're basically trying to change the rules of the game after the fact, it doesn't look good for the Premier League.

And they've got it wrong.
1. The ball was out, that's just a fact. 2. We've seen penalties be given that have had less contact than what Joelinton did in the build-up to the goal, so something doesn't add up in the Referee's decision making. Either way the panel has chose to basically overlook both rules.
