That's essentially what I've been saying, yeah. Of course they appeal to a different crowd.

The 360 isin't leading this generation, the Wii is. The Wii U will probably lead next generation too because the market for potential casual gamers is always going to be bigger than the market for core gamers based on sheer logic. You are incredibly optimistic about this supposed return to the hardcore focus. The conference was all lip service in my estimation.

The beds have been made. The core gamers will continue to buy Sony and Microsoft's technologically superior products because at the end of the day developers will want to push their biggest and best core franchises on the biggest and best hardware.

That's how I see it and I'd be delighted if Nintendo could prove me wrong but I do not see it happening. Just like with the Wii the core developers will jump off the bandwagon sooner or later. They gave Call Of Duty a run on the Wii and I could have pissed in a vial and sold more copies.

The Wii has the largest install base but the 360/Ps3 is pretty much dominating in the software stakes which is where most of the money is made as you'll buy more games then you'll ever buy consoles.

Of course it's too early to say if the Wii U will be successful or not but I think if they carry on as they started today then I honestly think they can lure the core gamer back.

Nintendo still make far more money shilling consoles, peripherals, and dirt cheap to develop software than M$ and Sony make off software.

I dunno, most Nintendo consoles and peripherals will have already had the majority of their total sales by now and the Wii U will only harm future sales while new 360/Ps3 games will continue to dominate sales which leads to a constant stream of sales. The Wii only really has a few heavy hitting games a year in comparision.

The 2 new games are original and not some Halo/COD copy cat like 80% of other games have been since 2009.

The sequel is a sequel to a game I have played.

They've got a few details about FFXIII-2. The Battle system's largely the same with a few tweaks it seems. I don't mind though as it was an excellent system, I just hope it isn't as linear.

IGN Spoiled it, but also saved me saving up for such silly games.
Although 'Splosion Man sounds epic.

So much for 'Super Secret' though.

Also looking at the specs the new system will have flash memory again. Still no built in hard drive. Add to that despite embracing HDMI and HD, they've stuck with " proprietary high-density optical discs", i.e no DVD or BluRay and therefore no movie playing. People generally want to have as few boxes under the telly as possible, and both Microsoft and Sony understand that so their kits act as DVD players/media centres and the like.
