Glad she's been found, hope when the parents get her home: that she's grounded big style. Would really want the teacher have the book flung at him but with the cowardly judges we have in the UK passing out sentences, the father has already 'built a case' for him as far as his mental health is concerned - no doubt that ace card will get pulled and used as a defence...... |

This is a very outlandish statement and a rather unpopular opinion, but what the hell, I really do feel quite sorry for two involved in this case.
I honestly don't think this is as 'sinister' as it is being made out, it could've been far worse and there have been much worse cases. Honestly? I just think there's a slight overreaction to the whole thing and I think this case has thrown a few of the laws regarding paedophillia and minors up for question and review. Yes, I know in the eyes of the law she's underage and he's therefore technically a paedophile, but I don't know...there's just something different about this case. If it had been a 12 year old he'd run off with I'd have a different view of things, but at 15 and six months away from being 16...just...I don't know, a bit, unfair? That's not the right word but I don't know what is. You can't help who you fall in love with basically, and unfortunately for this man it happened to be with probably the worst person possible. But again, you can't help that. If only he'd have held off for a year and no one would've batted an eyelid (well, apart from the Daily Mail, Express, Sun etc), that's the sad thing about this I think and one which to me does beg the question...is there really that much difference between 15 and a half and 16? I know I'm more than likely going to be alone in this view and will have the usual members on my back but to me this is a very sad love story gone wrong. Not just some paedophillic sex quest. I am of course pleased that they're both safe and well, and of course his conduct as a teacher does need some investigation, but yeah...this is a very different case to most similar to this if you ask me. And I think the French media's reaction is a lot more sensitive and reasonable than ours. |

If he'd been a 'real man' - he would have respected her young age - (and himself) - not to mention the fact that he had a wife of less than one year - he would have shown some respect to all of that: he'd have seperated from his wife, held off till Megan was 16, he'd have moved away from teaching, and in teaching her in particular, and would have respected the laws of the land - as well as her, his her parents, his wife, himself. Nothing more than a selfish git - but there you have it - such types exist and they don't care who they hurt, worry or cause upset to - as long as they get what they want. If this relationship 'is meant to be'.... then it will withstand all of what is going to be in front of them in the near future. Have to say: I doubt it. Once Megan is over her broken heart and what (imo) is probably teenager love/crush stuff: she will come to realise what a silly young girl she has been: and move on with her life, enjoy the rest of her teenage years doing what teenagers do - before settling down with a man twice her age. |

"Love" ..... or infatuation with an impressionable child?
I have no doubt that, in years to come, Megan will regard her "excursion" to France with a much older, married, man, with horror and repugnance, and her "capture" as a lucky "escape" .....

Does that sort of attitude extend to homosexuality and interracial relationships? Do the people involved have a choice in regards to who they love or is that somehow different?

I disagree. I think he asks a very interesting question. we are constantly told gay people cant help who they are attracted to, all this poster is saying, shouldnt the same rule apply to this teacher? yes hes broken thelaw and will go to prison. but should society burn him at the stake or in fact be more liberal in our thinking? did he simply fall in love with a girl a year too soon?
