Jussie Smollett is ARRESTED for filing a false police report and disorderly conduct after 'faking racist,
homophobic attack then lying to the police about it'

• Smollett was taken into custody sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning
• The 36-year-old is being held for filing a false police report and disorderly conduct
• He is due to appear in bond court at 1.30pm CT on Thursday afternoon
• His lawyers released a statement on Wednesday condemning the police
• They said he was entitled to the presumption of innocence 'like any citizen'
• Brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo testified against him in front of a grand jury
• They say he paid them to attack him in Chicago on January 29
• He claimed two masked assailants beat him, tied a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him and yelled: 'This is MAGA country!'
• Smollett's motive for the alleged hoax remains unclear but police sources have suggested he was trying to boost his profile
• 20th Century Fox is reportedly considering suspending him in light of his arrest

Late on Wednesday night, Smollett was charged for allegedly staging the January 29 attack and then lying repeatedly to police
about it after Nigerian brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo testified against him before a grand jury.

They say Smollett paid them to carry out the attack and that he also sent a threatening letter to himself a week beforehand at the Empire studio.

Surely either because he thought it would be good for his career, or it could be something more clinical akin to Factitious Disorder (aka Munchausen's Syndrome), or in other words, he felt he was chronically lacking in positive attention and created a victim narrative to counter that (as assault victims are usually offered a lot of love and support).

If it's the latter it's sad, but still incredibly damaging.

On a serious note; the damage he's done to both his own career, AND to the plight of genuine victims of racist / homophobic attacks, is utterly staggering. Genuinely criminal. People obviously ARE attacked like this and these crimes are already under-reported because of not being believed. This fellow's actions are going to make that so much worse now. I can almost hear the crows of "Pfffft probably LIES, remember Smollett" already, the next time a news story about a hate crime comes up.

I’m not saying what Jussie did was right but you didn’t even feel a shred of sympathy. What if it was a white man getting attacked? You wouldn’t challenge it then

Can you really say that though when people who didn't believe him in the last thread were sceptical for no solid reason other than they didn't like how the story framed a trump supporter as the attacker? They doubted him PURELY because of their agenda while others chose to believe him because that's how the facts lined up in that moment. They had no evidence of wrongdoing while there was footage of the staged attack which gave credence to Smollet's story. The narrative only really changed a few weeks later and the doubters had no real inkling that it would. It was just a lucky guess really.

Trying to frame empathy as pushing an agenda is quite something when you consider that the only real reason that doubt existed was because of a need to push an agenda in the first place.
