…he looks computer generated doesn’t he, but he’s a pretty cool Willy Wonka….….I was a female Willy Wonka one time for a dress up story character at school and I was very popular…(…my outfit…)…because I’d pinned candies all over my jacket …I’d forgotten actually that you had a huge interest in Japan and were quite learned in the language, even though I don’t have an understanding of it, I do love to hear her speak her mother language also…:love :….

It's odd, having listened to it so much through a TV drama, I started to absorb very differently after a while, relatively quickly. I never had that experience with other languages. I find the spoken version is very easy to catch pieces of and pick up without having really "studied" Chinese. It doesn't sound "Chinese" anymore the way our brains can make some foreign languages sound a certain way from a foreigner perspective. It has a distinct beauty to it that's hard to describe once some of the patterns become less subtle (grammar, prominent verbiage, etc). It's very expression and I've always been a fan of the Chinese sense of humor. I loved that about Yinrun too. I get somewhat annoyed when people squirm at foreign languages being spoken about, because it's very different to hear someone in their native tongue than it is to hear in our own... there are some emotions I only find when speaking some other languages, so I can understand how that might feel restrictive for a non-native speaker.

…yeah, as you say…that’s a good way to absorb a language…I’m really bad because with foreign language movies, I put the subtitles on so that becomes my focus in reading those…which means I’m not actually listening or absorbing, you know…and it also mean in watching the text, that I’m not absorbing the emotions so much either…but yeah, with Yinrun…she kind of blossoms and opens up into a whole new confidence when speaking in her mother language and that’s lovely to see and to listen to…even when I don’t understand her words……
