It is still ruined for some who still hold the Doctor must be a man.

One female I know says she will no longer watch it because of that.

Well I'm sure Chris Chibnall's had sleepless nights knowing that the one female Sticks knows won't be watching

Good for them.

No different to those who stopped watching because the actor cast wasn't hot or wasn't under 50.

The show will go on.

It's a really stupid reason to stop watching.

I will try and get to see it out of morbid curiosity, like watching a train wreck, but that view is out there and it is not just guys being sexist, so you can not write them off.

It’s still a pathetic reason though.

How is it a train wreck though? You're not making any sense? It's a train wreck because they've cast a woman in the role? You clearly believe that yourself, so I don't know why you're covering it with "the view is out there" like something out of the X-Files.

"The View Is Out There"

"I Want To Believe (in misogyny)"

I mean maybe it will seem forced and awful, or maybe it'll be a breath of fresh air... I'm not sure how anyone can claim to know until we've actually seen it!

Plus, I've said before, I was convinced that I'd hate both Matt Smith and then Capaldi and I like both in the role in their own ways. Smith is still my fav doctor, though that seems to be an unpopular opinion .

It is sexism though when they fail to explain how it's a train wreck. As we have seen nothing about how the show will actually unfold under the new producer or with the new actor in the role, the only reason they have to think it's a train wreck is because the new actor is female.

I'm intrigued, more than anything... Hopefully it'll spark the interest in the show that was lost when Capaldi took over x

That's a funny way of spelling Moffat.

He wasn't that bad a producer at the beginning. Series 5, the first half of Series 6 and second half of Series 7 were good!

5 and 6 were good. For me, 7 was the worst series out the lot, including the 50th which I have to say I thought was extremely overrated.

5 and 10 were Moffat's only half-decent series. Just facts!

It’s very Doctor’y. I like it and I can’t wait for the new series.

I said like watching a train wreck, not that it was a train wreck.

There is a difference.

There have been a number commentators out there who disagree with the casting decision, like my female friend who say it won't work and it is ruined. Those commentators have explicitly stated they will not watch it.

Like watching a train wreck is an expression referring to something utterly ghastly but you can not help watching.

I at least will give it a chance, is what I meant.

That's a bad analogy then; you could say it's more like watching a plane coming in for a really rough landing. You're pretty sure it's going to burst into flames when it hits the runway, but you accept that MAYBE the pilot will nail the landing and the plane will be OK.

Also, having a female friend who says it's ruined doesn't mean that the sentiment isn't misogynistic... Women can misogynistic too, oddly enough.

That said I don't think it is always from a place of misogyny... Different people have different interpretations of the character and there's no "right to wrong" answer there. It's fiction and everyone views a narrative differently... So for some people, the doctor being a man may well be part of their concept of his identity. That isn't "incorrect", but nor is the argument that Time Lords are biologically fluid.

And of course... None of the above can be used as "evidence" that the upcoming show will be awful OR great. No one will really know what they think of it until we see it in action.

Rumor coming out about the Xmas Special ending
Spoiler:

The Doctor uploads his consciousness into the database that River was uploaded into in the Library.

This consciousness or whatever can change into his past 13 interations and becomes Smith before switching back to demonstrate .

Did you watch Tennant's era? Specifically, Series 4? Well one of the episodes (well, two, it was a two parter) was set in a massive library. River Song debuted (and died) in this two parter. BUT her consciousness/mind was saved onto the Sonic Screwdriver before being uploaded to the database in the library (I believe the database was created to contain the consciousness of a little girl who died? and the library was built because she loves books? honestly that story was a fever dream). I think this was brought up during Smith's era during Name of the Doctor - I'm pretty sure River's presence was her consciousness from the database - not physically her.

i guess 12 will be still stubborn to go, so instead of 'dying', he uploads his consciousness to the library so him and his past selves can live freely and switch between faces as they so wish, and the consciousness will switch from Capaldi to Smith to demonstrate the fact they can change, as Smith is the only one young enough and cares enough to return

Right okay. Yeah I watched since Ecclestone, but forgot all the in and out details.

Spoiler:

Does this mean we might get Smith back, even if it's just for a few minutes, because he's my fave doctor

Ahh yeah tbh series 4 is always one I've got hazy memories on so I getcha!

Spoiler:

IF the spoiler is true, yes! It'd be an interesting parallel since the first ep of Capaldi (besides the Christmas special) had a Matt Smith cameo. I think Matt Smith was rumoured to return this year too, but then again I SWEAR he's rumoured to return every Christmas
