Being an Ulsterman DOES NOT go against being british. Some one needs a history lesson. The people who fought in WW1, the ulster division, a lot of them were proud to be fighting for their country. Others seen it as a way of getting home rule. Again, depending which side of the family you come from.

RIP to all them great men.
But Ulster is nothing more than what the english tried to change the word Ulaidh to when they first came here and tried to rid us of our language, when it was Ulaidh as in the province of Ireland. Ulster is Irish land, including the six counties of n. Ireland and the other counties of Ulster in the republic, I just find it kind of weird how people can use Ulster as a British term when it a traditional Irish place.

There is always going to be an argument about this.

http://www.ulsternation.org.uk/Default.htm

They want independence from the south of Ireland and Britain.

What do you think?

I think Ulster is still an Irish area that covers Ireland along with Munster, Leinster and Connacht, and should be recognized as that.

I disagree.

We have nothing in common with the people down south, they could care less about us and we could care less about them.

I don't have any heart/warmth to the Irish flag. I can't have that flag representing me and nor will it ever for many other people.

I don't know about you, but I see myself as having a lot in common with them, they're Irish people living on Irish land as are the people in the North, this is the island of Ireland and all of this is Irish land whether it has a border or not, or whether it's ruled by a queen or not. Even the president of the Republic is from the North, so it's not right in saying they don't care about us, as I'm sure the majority of the people there would agree that all of this island is Irish. Our history is the same, and our cultures are the same, and our native language, official or not, is the same.

You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion, I just feel that Eire should be returned to the way it should, as an Irish land consisting of 32 counties without borders or restrictions and united as the same Irish people without a divide and everyone respected for the nationality they are and wish, this entire island is Ireland.

And I'm just trying to point out that whether divide or no divide, this is Irish and not British land, all of it, and it should be recognized as that, the North of Ireland belongs to the Irish, it's originally Irish, and it's natives will be Irish, whether people living there are British, or any other nationality for that matter , it's natives are Irish, it's just ruled by a foreign empire. In my opinion, that's all there is to it.

Just goes to show how sensitive the topic of Ireland and Britain still is.
I'm from the six counties and I too, would be insulted to be called British, I'm Irish, and this is still Ireland.

No doubt we English "deserved" the IRA attrocities? Don't think Steve would see it that way - he was only 19 when they blew his legs off.

Seriously though, live and let live! The flag couldnt be that bothersome, its just Green White and Gold! Very inoffensive colours.

I hate that awkward feeling when an English person offers you soup!!!

Northern Ireland is part of the UK but is not part of Great Britain.

The UK, under the Act Of Union of 1800, consisted of Great Britain and (all of) Ireland.

So we were once in the UK. And all the better for it. All the best town planing are architecture are a legacy of British rule. So is the parliament and the judiciary.

Dublin is as British a town as you'll find anywhere in the UK.

Green white and orange.

Inspired by the French tricolour, it stands for peace between the 2 traditions in Ireland.

As a person from the republic of Ireland, I agree 100% with you. You put it very eloquently as well I must say.

and Keith, the province of Ulster also has counties which are part of the Republic in it so I would not class Ulster as British at all

Steve was a soldier. He signed up for it and put himself into the army. When you join the army you risk your life, it's the nature of the job. There were casualties on both sides you know.
