If it aint broke don't try to fix it. If a lurker is scanning the forum for the first time and sees anything to do with paying they will click right off. Even if it's optional or not because when you're scan reading it's only the buzz words that stand out anyway.

Loads of forums have premium sections for those who to donate/pay.

It's just like first class on a train/plane. If you pay for it you're gonna get access to better material. Having said that second class has most facilities as first, just first class has more benefits.

Not that "donators" would be first class members, just would have access to premium benefits.

I would just test a donate button for now without any special features.... lets see how many people really are dedicated to keeping the forum going and aren't just clicking the 'yes' option because they want to feel like a 'VIP'.

I'm on another forum that has premium membership. I didn't know until I had signed up. It doesn't have to be emblazoned on the homepage.

I'm totally fine with an anonymous donate option btw.

But just my two penneth, I just don't like the idea of people having the ability to broadcast the fact they pay a subscription and get additional features that others don't get for fears I've already touched upon.

Just my personal opinion that's all.

It wouldnt definitely have to be a 'VIP' option it could be something like donations with a choice of either donating anonymously and receiving something back as a thanks like say coloured user names, user bars etc
