Labour frontbencher dismisses PM's 'pipe dream'

Liz Kendall has dismissed Boris Johnson's multi-billion pound
"new deal" as a "pipe dream".

The Leicester West MP told
Sky News: "Remember Boris Island Airport - it's a pipe dream - (like) the
garden bridge that was never built.

"Roosevelt actually delivered and saved America
from the Great Depression, I think the jury will
be out on Boris Johnson for that."]

It was gone, and the same people who were observing are still doing so now

He went on too long, sorry.

It's just words to me, no real explanations.
This is just to detract from the negative news of Leicester and likely elsewhere.

A sidestepping exercise in my view, the cynic in me says anyway.

Nearly 70k excess deaths, 25k deaths because of his late lockdown, Leicester back in lockdown, but Boris has statues on the brain. All culture war, no care.

He's setting the UK up to be fleeced by his private sector mates. He's actually cutting the affordable housing budget at the same time. It's currently £12b over 5 years in the 2020 budget, but he's made that £12b over 8 years.

Hopefully he's getting proper advice and realises that austerity would make it completely impossible for the economy to recover from the last few months, rather than just "exceptionally difficult" as it already is. The only viable option right now is to kick the national debt into the long grass, pump money in, and hope that it pays off down the line.

Of course, that was a solid argument in 2008 as well but they went with a downward spiral of cuts and lost productivity so who knows how long they'll hold out before deciding it's "belt tightening time" again.

It's pretty much what it is, the country has been so underfunded over the last decade, that this "investment" isn't even getting us back to even. As an example, he's pledged £1b to a school building program, but ust last year schools were carrying a £5b underfunding black hole.

Pretty sure he also spent more than £1b on no-deal preparation last year, so this is where we are and this is what's being called investment.

Johnson and the truth are rarely aligned. The actual new deal was approx £600b by today's standards.
