Borders & Dumfries and Galloway, which are closest to England, have lower numbers of cases than a lot of other parts of Scotland, even when you take the different populations into account.

...it’s surely no different to the local lockdown in Leicester atm, in that travelling in and out of there is discouraged...which is essentially what Nicola is trying to do, to safeguard lives...Boris is talking about the tourist industry/Nicola is talking about people’s lives and health...
The difference with Leicester is that it is only one city that is 'quarantined' (or travel discouraged) to the rest of the country. The equivalent measure would be to lockdown Gretna and Annan or wherever the spike is, however, they are talking here about cutting off the whole of England.

Imagine the SNP reaction if it was reversed and England stopped travel from Scotland.

That should be the same here in England, and for shop and store staff too in my view.

At least Sturgeon acts, doesn't mess about.

ONS say its 1 in 200000 infections in England now....Leicester is a mystery as it stands alone in its infection rate

...isn’t she saying exactly that...that it shouldn’t be politicised, which any comparison of thought to an SNP reaction would be doing...this should be about preserving health and health systems as a primary action and not about politics at all...tbh, I find it staggering and lacking in any self awareness that Boris Johnson of all people should declare her words to be.. 'astonishing and shameful' ...

Guaranteed Nicola has only done this to look ahead of the curve compared to Boris.

If masks were the right thing to do why weren't they requiring them back in March - May, when the virus was at its peak?

Well I think they've always been necessary but at least she is doing it.

Not pussyfooting about like Johnson, saying we have to wear them on public transport while not in shops of any size or stores either.

I've worn a face covering or mask since mid March.
To me it's ridiculous the UK government hasn't insisted on it at all throughout.

So yes, later in the day but she's done it..
Full credit from me to her for doing so too.

I also think, even moreso now as restrictions are being relaxed,.
It's probably more necessary to wear them now.

Covid-19

Café Rouge and Bella Italia
owner falls into administration

[Ninety one Casual Dining Group outlets
will close immediately, and 1,900 of the
firm's 6,000 staff will lose their jobs.

Administrators Alix Partners are seeking offers
for all or parts of the remaining business.
There have been thousands of job losses announced
this week as the coronavirus continues
to batter the UK economy.
Casual Dining Group, which also owns the
Las Iguanas chain, said it hoped a
new owner could save the firm.]

I thought this happened a while ago? My friend who works in Edinbugh was bawling about Café Rouge going bust a couple of months back. Can't say I;ve ever been in one.

Then again, he's in finance so maybe he had early info.

Transport police are going to switch from encouraging users of public transport to use face coverings to refusing entry or fining/prosecuting so even mandating it doesn’t ensure 100 per cent compliance unfortunately

they said they were in trouble a couple of months ago and looking for solutions. They were in trouble before lockdown though so this has just made it worse

She needs to do what can to protect the Scottish... if they have this under control I think she's right to restrict movement.
