Default Does anyone use the ignore feature?

I can't speak for the entire site here as I am only on this forum (BB10), but the trolls are really ruining my experience. I love talking about BB10 with the cool folks even if we sometimes disagree on things.

My question is this... does anyone use the ignore feature? Does it help? I am considering leaving because the trolls are ruining the place. I figured I would give ignore a shot first, but was curious.

Not anymore, but im considering returning to it.

Its annoying when it still tells you they have posted though, would be way better if they ceased to exist to you anymore.

Nope, every once in a while a troll will actually post a valid point in a thread

I am starting to find it essential

We can all have different favourites, different views and so on, and still get along, but one or two people love to provoke, be abusive and personal. It's because it is easy to talk big behind a computer, and also the school holidays (no offence to the people at school who are perfectly reasonable and intelligent here!)

People can differ without being aggressive and abusive, or even offensive. Now I have no hesitation in using "ignore" as there are some people it is best to ignore. I did not want to use it, as I like to see what people have to say, but if it is ignorant spouting and reasoning does not work, what can you do?

Having said all that, I think I've only used it 3 times, and two of those I switched it off again.

I hadn't thought about the school holidays being on. That explains why it is suddenly so bad, I suppose. (Same with the no offense to those who aren't trolls)

I waver. But I enjoy discussing the show, you know? I hate the DS boards. And the comments on the C4 site are generally bad.

Nah I don't use it.

I take things on here like a pinch of salt.

I'm not going to let a message board upset me.

I have never used it. I am tempted sometimes though. Not really for trolls because they tend to disappear quite quickly. More for just one or two posters who pretty much just say the same things over and over and over again in thread after thread.

But I suppose I won't bother in the end.

It isn't that it upsets me. It is just that it is an annoyance. For example, if you are looking for blue socks but yellow socks keep falling on top of the blue ones, you would be annoyed but not upset.

using the ignore button is a form of censorship, if you dont like having your opinions challanged by other people it's maybe better to not be on any forum anywhere. Not everyone is gonna agree with you; just a fact of life.

I guess it's there to cater for the more sensitive or closed minded of forum users.

Hmmm...maybe it does have its use in extreme cases. But on the whole the ignore button is the refuge of those unable to articulate there own opinions when challenged by others.

Clearly you did not bother to read what I posted. I said quite clearly that I enjoyed discussing the show with people even when we had different opinions. I also specifically said that trolls were the ones I wanted to ignore.

Seems pretty straight forward to me so your response really made no sense.

Yes I see your point now, I read it as though it was upsetiing you

If I was to have a little moan about the whole forum, it's the repetitive threads that are constantly started every 5 minutes.

The mods certainly have their work cut out on here

Like i said some people are more sensitive and etc.

Don't be so sensitive. I did read your OP, however when replying to OPs I read the whole thread and endeavour to include some of the other post points raised thereof.

My post was informed, to a certain extent, by shasown's statement - 'Nope, every once in a while a troll will actually post a valid point in a thread'

what other people say is of importance. its very important not to be egocentric on forums...

then again there's always the Ignore button if you feel the need...go on press it.

easy now

It is not a form of censorship.

It would be censorship if one stopped others from reading posts by a particular person. Ignoring someone is no different from declining to listen to a person you find tiresome or turning over the television because you dislike a programme. In fact, the option is very well named: it is ignoring someone.

As I said earlier, I don't use it myself, but it is certainly nothing like a form of censorship.

The trolls and those darn database errors are really annoying. For me (since i rarely reply on troll threads) it's the database issues that annoy me most.
