Ok, Simon Cowell time
bronaaaaa Motion Sorry - Not quite. It may be in motion but the shot here failed to capture that and it still looked pretty static to me. Old & New I'm afraid the expression that comes to mind is "Straining at a gnat". The buildings through the arch do not say to me new. On the technical front, you are more exposed to the city and not the foreground. I would have forced a flash to light up more of the foreground. CARARAWR Failed to send in any photos and is eliminated. GypsyGoth Motion Is this meant to be a Gostbusters version of a musical note. One can see the motion lines, but the clear semi quaver shatters the illusion. High and Low I do not feel this works, even though it is done in black and white - sorry Nate Motion Well they are in motion, but this is effectively freeze framed. Typical motion shots have motion blur. Hot & Cold This is quite clever, plus the use of black and white does help. Nicely in focus. Patrick Motion Does not speak to me of motion that much as this seems like a freeze-frame effect, plus the focus is not that great. Was it taken on a camera phone? Big & Small Soft focus and also there is not sufficient contrast for me between the two hands.

My Comments
Brona - It doesn't look as if it's moving but I still like the perspective of the photo. - I like the idea Brona but like you said it's hard to see the new part of the photo. GypsyGoth - Probably the only one that shows proper movement and I do like the photo Claudia. - I love this photo, it doesn't literally show high and low but still gets it across. Nate - I personally love this photo but doesn't really show movement, nice photo though. - I like the idea but I think the photo could overall be a bit better, good though. Patrick - Like Brona's, the wheel doesn't seem to actually be moving and the photo isn't the best of quality. I like the idea though. - To me the hands look practically the same size so I don't think the theme has been portrayed very well. Again I like the idea but yeh something moving as slow as that won't show motion in a photo. Last edited by Sam!; 27-11-2009 at 07:23 PM. |

Brona:
Motion: I have to disagree with Sticks + Sam! here - the blurs around the top of the main 'car' in the shot, and the blurs of the lights on its side, clearly indicate it's in motion. I have a similar photo of a fairground ride which was rather lovely, so all in all - this gets a big thumbs up from me. Opposites: This, however, is where I have to agree with Sticks - the buildings between the arch aren't particularly striking me as 'new'. I see what you tried to do, and it was a creative effort, but I'm afraid it doesn't quite work. GypsyGoth: Motion: Well I can see the reasoning behind the shot, but for me this doesn't make a particularly nice photo. It does the job but without any flair. Opposites: I really don't get this photo at all. I've no idea what's in the shot, or how it represents either high or low. This is pretty poor, though I do hope you make it through on the grounds of your previous submittals. Nate: Motion: Whilst I understand the gripes with this being a snapshot rather than, say, blurred, for me too many blurs can spoil the broth. It doesn't take too much imagination to see the movement implied in the shot, and it's again different. Like. Opposites: I think this was probably the most obvious thing one could have gone for, but you've made something quite mundane look rather pretty. Favourite photo this round. Patrick: Motion: Well I guess the Eye does move, but terribly slowly. I think focus on the traffic on this street could have made an excellent photo, though. Opposites: I think this was probably the easiest 'opposites' theme given to anyone, and as such this is disappointing - the difference between the hands is negligible and even so it's not particularly an exciting photo, is it?
