I'm posting this just so everyone who's saying Joe's a flop and on Steve's level just because he only had one week at number one wrong. As I pointed out, this is simply because there was less chart competition for the others.

Week 3:
Alexandra Burke : hallelujah : from 311,900 to 104,500 ; -66%
Joe McElderry : the climb : from 195,728 to 69,792 ; -64%
Shayne Ward : that's my goal : from 132,300 to 54,200 ; -59%
Leona Lewis : a moment like this : from 128,100 to 39,000 ; -70%
Leon Jackson : when you believe : from 119,900 to 32,100 ; -73%
Steve Brookstein : against all odds : from 26,400 to 17,860 ; -32%

Just shows that for the third week of sales Joe and Alex have had the most sold and the smallest decrease. (Steve's were very little so it doesn't really count)

Quite surprised at that, but yeah I agree about the others having less competition. There were hardly any big releases back then, but there's loads of big names with singles out now. I think if GaGa's Bad Romance had been released at the same time as Alex's debut single had been released last year then she would have a similar problem.

Joe had 2x more viewers than Leona and Shayne, so he had a 2x bigger audience so he should of sold 2x more which he has not done. Alexandra with a smaller audience of around 5m and is still beating Joe! However Alexandra has sold about 1.5x more than Leona which it should be like as she had 1.5x more viewers. Taking all the Audiences into account
1st Shayne
2nd Leona and Alex
4th Leon
5th Joe
6th just behind Joe, Steve

Joe's figures are appalling when you consider how much the show has grown in the last 2 years and he's virtually selling the same as Shayne who had half the viewers series 6 did. And Alex has sold twice as many despite having a good few million less viewers.

oh my god you are so full of bullshit. firstly, alexandra's series did not have 5 million viewers. series 5 live show ratings were practically on par with this years (although maybe down a million). people will naturally tune into a final, but won't be the dedicated viewer who go out and buy the releases. and again, just because someone watches a show does not mean they'll go out and buy the single. i watch big brother, but i don't vote weekly. i watch i'm a celebrity yet i don't vote for bushtuckers and stuff. alex had a better song when it comes down to it.

it doesn't matter how many people watched the show. that's what ITV has to worry about. Syco will be looking at the sales figures and Joe's are absolutely fine. He's the 5th best selling single of the year with around 720,000 copies sold after 2 weeks of sales taken into account and the first in Ireland.

I think the main reason Joe isn't number 1 for weeks is because "The Climb" is the worst choice for a winners single. At the time, I thought it was well suited and that it would work. But I seriously cannot stand it now. It just SO cheesy and doesn't suit Joe at all.

it would have suited stacey perfectly
