Default Change

Have there been any drastic changes in your life that have made you the person you are today? Death of a family member, meeting the love of your life... what has made you the person you are today?

My father died when I was 3.
I think I would be a completely different person than who I am today if he was still around. I'm not saying I would be any better but I think I would be really different.

My mum chucking me out when I was 15, and not having spoken to her since pretty much, that's been my biggest shock to the system you could say. Had to grow up damn quick, and I'll always have her in the back of my mind, wondering where she is and what she's doing I guess. But I have my dad and my step mum so I'm lucky. Definitely changes you when you don't have the woman that gave birth to you in your life though and they don't want to know you.

Drugs, I suppose. Taking them and then ... not ... taking them. Sounds like a cliche, I know, but when your altering your brain chemistry for the better part of three years it tends to have an effect on your life.

I'm glad I saw the amazing things I saw, and I'm glad I stopped when I started to see the same things over and over again.

Seeing Depeche Mode in Paris also last June convinced me that my life lay in music. I messed up my education because of the deeerugs [I would have messed it up anyway because I had no interest in it - but I figured it was more fun with drugs] so I'm in that depressing position Nathan is in now but I get a lot of free time to make tunes. That's where I'm headed. To hell with conventional living.

When I was 13 my Mother died, I think i had t grow up pretty fast and "be mature" (Even if i dont show it on here).

Then when I was 18 my brother jumped off a bridge, now im practically a full time carer for him so i think thats changed me a lot and basically over runs my life to a degree....

I think with those two things happening at a young age it made me listen to people a bit more and stop being petty.....I think they made me into a decent enough bloke.....(even though many would disagree lol)

On a serious note.. oh sorry to hear all your stories. Sounds horrific for some, depressing for others or both.

Erm I don't think I have changed much.. regardless of who I am with?

When I was younger,I got bullied and didn't have many friends, especially after my best friend moved away. So that made me apperciate my friends that I have now way more. I always try and see the good in life, even when it's really hard to.

My dad dying. It's strange that the absence of someone can affect one's life soo much. More than any other it probably defines what I'm like now as a person. And if I could change time I'd have more days with him.

The Suicide of a good friend; that shook me to my core but he was a very unhappy soul.

I done something stupid when I was depressed. I find it difficult to get past it, to forgive myself and more on. And there is another part or consequence to it; I think neighbours and relatives think that I'm a selfish ungrateful brat.

And lastly it was falling out with the popular crowd.

Ok after saying all that stuff I'd just to add that I'm happy in life at the moment. And I'm pretty upbeat, I like being me.

My Mum and Dad broke up.

If they hadnt of, I would of been living in a diffrent side of the town.. a rough side infact, with a bunch of dicks who like to go out everynight drinking and rioting.

I would of never been like settled down (feels weird saying that and im 14 lol) but, I do go to school over in that side of town and I can see how diffrent I am to everyone else as I moved to a quieter place to get away from dad.

If I didnt do that, then I wouldnt of been on here as right now I probley would of been out fighting, drinking, smoking crack etc

When i smoked weed, i decided i didnt want to **** up my life.. so quit cold turkey.. never touched it in like 4 years now.. And started the gym as it something i really wanted to do.

Starting the gym in general, i would never be as condident as i am now..and be very small and skinny..

How often did you smoke it? Because your the first person I have ever heard to use the words 'cold turkey' in relation to weed. It's not Heroin. And it stands no more of a chance of wrecking up your life than booze or even weightlifting.

It's all about self control. I don't like the implication that all pot smokers are on the road to messing up life.

Falling in love for the first time at sixteen and subsequently getting my heart broken three years later. I learnt a lot from that relationship and at the time I swore I would resent this guy for the rest of my life, but now I'd say he was one of my closest friends.

I done it every day for 2 months, not a long time i know but i lost all concentration in school..

As for others, most people i know that have stopped it have either smoked cigarettes/ smoked them more / At least had it once.

I know it doesn't but i hated doing it why do i need to do something illegal when i could just drink as i prefer drinking.. but when i done it, i couldnt breathe as deeply couldnt hold my breath or run as long whilst i was doing it and for a couple of months after.

As for booze, i only drink once every 5 - 10 weeks if that.. and dont drink a lot, im never really "drunk".

I know all pot smokers arent like that, but i dont like it, i hate smoking in general but when people smoke it and they have children, or even worse have children around whilst smoking it, i think its just so cheap and just shouldnt be done.

That's cool, Ben. Marijuana affects us all very differently and it's great that you stopped to improve your health. I just hate it when people take the moral high ground because they are too ignorant to learn what drugs are relatively safe and what aren't, and so in their minds, all drugs are bad, and everyone who takes 'em are good for nothing junkies.

Yeah i still have friends that do it, admitedly i dont see them as much anymore but still friends..

I have no problems with people enjoying life..

But it didnt agree with me, it was fun to an extent but when i realised i couldnt fully breathe in i hated it.

I do think people should stop no matter who they are when they decide to have children..

I also quite like not drinking now, i didnt drink for 9 - 10 weeks other than the odd pint.. never had more than one in that time and i didnt miss it, i had fun without it, although i cant dance without it lol. But i do still enjoy it, i drank just over a week ago and it was great.

two things

coming out - not a huge event but it meant I could live a little bit more freely and openly with everyone around me.

having my stomach pumped when I was 14 - massive wake up call, had I not gotten as bad as I had at that stage I don't have a clue where I would be today, or if I even would tbh.

My mum dying when I was 13 (made me more mature, but made me scared of anyone outside the family, and scared of opening up) + Being bullied in school

Getting a good friend who didnt stab me in the back who I talked to about a lot of stuff, made me less scared of others, but still its hard for me to be really close with anyone in case they stab me in the back

Moving to Blackpool and starting afresh
