New Lara Croft Game Announced
Lara Croft goes download only for The Guardian of Light.

UK, March 4, 2010 - Lara Croft is returning for an all-new adventure, its voluptuous icon returning for Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light, a download-only title coming to unspecified platforms in 2010.

No mention has been made of the Tomb Raider name in the official press release, suggesting this will be a departure from the mainline series.

Crystal Dynamics return on the development duties, and General Manager Darrell Gallagher sounded suitably excited by the news. "This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting" he said whilst backflipping and shooting a tiger.

Lara's last outing – and indeed her first proper adventure on the current generation – was Tomb Raider Underworld, a game we rather liked and awarded an 8.5.

Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light is being shown at next week's GDC in San Francisco, so expect more news soon.

I'm quite intrigued, I rather like the TR games.

I remember years ago walking home with a wire as a weapon.

And this guy was like 19 and said to me if I traded him the broken wire he would give me 3 PS1 Games LOL

So I Was like 'Alright then'

And we did a deal.

I played TR for ages, it was this really old one.
It had like monkeys or somthing that bounced at you, you were in a mansion and there was a butler and a swimming pool and GYM and stuff.

They should just let it die. The last few were an okay resurgence but the market is overflooded with better games. And the original Tomb Raider's have aged horribly. They were fun back in the day but really the gameplay mechanics were hackneyed to the last. Clunky, repetetive gameplay involving the control a tank of a character whose main adversaries seemingly were the entire animal kingdom. Heck, it was bad even for it's time when compared to the other early 3D games like Mario 64.

Still, good to see they are continuing the tradition of appaling subtitles.

I quite liked the newest trilogy, perhaps a bit too inspired by Prince of Persia but still.

It hasn't got Tomb Raider in the title which is quite interesting, I'll be interested to see how different it is from the others.

Gamespot's done a preview of the game and I honestly don't know what to make of it. It looks like it could be horrific but for an XBLA game it looks as though it has potential.

Apparently this was made to fill the gap between the last Tomb Raider and the next one (which is apparently called Tomb Raider Origins and is set in Japan) to keep the fans and Square Enix happy. I'm guessing this will be this year's TR game with a proper Tomb Raider game coming out next year.

Well from what I've been reading, Origins is gonna feature her fighting for survival on an abandoned japanese Island so I expect it could be quite a tense game.

There's been whispers that it could be but that's all. Apparently it's her Origin story so it's before she's got the guns and such and the concept art apparently shows her wielding a bow and primitive weapons which gives the Island rumour more credit.

TR meets Fallout 3 would give us games a real good TR.. PS1 TR still up there with the fans.

A change in direction is much needed. TR 18rated would make me erect.
