They were predicted to take the political scene by storm, gaining many seats (before the exit polls) and they ended up with 5 less seats than before, was it a case of the media getting over excited?

People would think its a waste vote/alot of the support for Clegg (facebook, the debates etc) were people who were too young to vote

Agreed ^ Alot of the Liberal fans are under 18, like me! They've inspired people alright but for future elections.

It's a shame, it isn't a wasted vote if you believe in the person you vote for is the one who you trust, no matter who they are, it would have shook parliament up to have a higher number of Lib Dems in the commons

It was a brief bit of glamour for the party because they'd otherwise been a fringe party with no real support. It was very easy for Clegg to appear as "the alternative" vote but when push came to shove, noone actually knew the Lib Dems' policies, and there is and always be an air of uncertainty about them.
Plus I think a lot of the supporters were underage and incredibly gullible, naive people. |

I overlooked all three party's policies before voting (I was tempted to vote politically for Lib Dems) but their policies did seem quite unrealistic, such as scapping tutition fees for University, sounds good on paper, until you get the thought "where would the money come from to fund the University" they did seem to have quite a few unrealistic policies, where as Tories and Labour were more realistic

I meant the people who came out of nowhere in support for them, not the supporters who've always been Lib Dem.

My constituency has always been Lib Dem - But I don't thin they'd have coped with a whole country ruling. I think a Lib-Lab coalition would be really good. Experience and new ideas into one - I think it would work perfectly.

I rather have change and new ideas with a Con-Lib coalition.

I think it's too early for change. We're still in a very dangerous zone with the economy and I think we need to be in a safe zone before a big change comes. Labour have the experience and I think that they can get us out of the slump - I'd be open to the conservatives in the next election though - When we are out of the economic downturn.

The mentality of most voters is that it's a wasted vote, and, under the current system, they're probably right.
Also, as mentioned, I'd imagine the main surge came from supporters too young to vote. The solution? Electoral reform & decrease the legal voting age to 16. |

Don't know about reducing the age, I know it sounds ageist but alot (not all) would abuse their vote and vote for the Loonies or the BNP for the 'lols'

Cleggmania was sort of based around Twitter and Facebook support (Lib Dems got about 42 percent in their poll) and those sites don't necessarily represent the UK population.
A lot of people in the country don't even ever use the Internet. |

70% of UK households have Internet access, but even in that not everyone in the house will use the computer.

Yes and the TV gigs All Fecking Hype. So now he is So Lucky that David will take some of his MP's into the Conservative-LibDem Deal. Then Every Bill by the New Power will get through as Near Dead New Labour do not have the seats to stop anything. This System works Fine in NZ. Bliss. Last edited by arista; 08-05-2010 at 07:37 AM. |

The most amusing thing that has come out of this election for me is that the Scots have stuffed themselves by voting almost uniformly for New Labour, and will now be in the position of having virtually their entire bunch of MPs relegated to the back benches as the opposition! Lol.
