I don't mean worst in terms of how poorly conceived they are on the author's part, but what they represent and people who just rile you up. *cue a tirade of Harry Potter/Twilight characters*
For me it's torn between Jack from Lord of the Flies, Mr. Wilcox in Howards End and Dim in A Clockwork Orange. I guess Dorian Gray is a pretty bad character too, but it makes too interesting a read for me to hate him.

As we were saying, Dolores Umbridge is infuriating .
I really, really hated Baldur Persicke from Alone In Berlin; he's a teenage Nazi who's very sly and is very cutthroat to get what he wants, and generally represents the SS and Nazi Party; and in the context of the book is the only person with a happy ending, despite being a Nazi (the storyline takes place during the height of WWII). Mr. ___ in The Color Purple riles me up as well. He represents oppression of women. Generally just characters who oppress and get away with their crimes or flaws in the face of the good characters not prevailing. -is sad- |

Out of the top of my head Umbridge from Harry Potter. I'd think of more if I flicked through some books.

Sam The Big Gay from The Lord Of The Rings. Get's on my tits Mishter Frowdow.
Gilderoy Lockhart was annoying too because he was a lame duck character. I liked Umbirdge. Vicious bitch beneath the furry exterior. She had this brilliant twisted malevolence. |

The title character from Salome. Can you imagine trying to please her in the bedroom?
