Default The Book Club with Ben

After Animal Farm, I can't wait for his next hilarious review of another literary classic!

Should he stay on the theme and go for 1984 next? That would be interesting!

Anyone else got any suggestions for Ben's next Book Review????????

Well, at least the others could join-in as they'd all read it, so we could see a good debate on it's strengths and undelying themes!

He didn't actually review it though, did he. He summarised it and gave a basic interpretation. That's not a review. Leastways I didn't hear him stating a critical opinion of the work or analysing its merits. Maybe I missed that bit.

Naw -you're correct

I was being sarcy and started the thread because his summary made him sound like he was describing the Beano as it was sooooooooooooooooo far away from what the book was about.

Maybe he'd just seen the dumbed-down cartoon movie version pr maybe he's thick

Nah I don't recommend any books to anyone.
Everyone knows that they only broaden the mind and encourage creative thought. Just watch the telly instead - you might get to see people shouting at each other.

FWIW I think Ben actually did a brilliant synopsis... until JJ's pea brain couldn't take any more and cut him off.
To be fair, I think JJ actually tried to listen but his face began to look like a sucked lemon as he ran out of attention span.

Huh? What do you think Animal Farm is about if not an analogy of Communism and specifically the dynamic between Trotsky and Stalin?

Yeah - it was a well dumbed down version (consider his audience) - but he was basically spot on.

He was describing it to JJ in words of one syllable so that the cerebrally challenged Aussie could understand without his frown muscles going into overdrive while his brain attempted to absorb information. It was a very basic interpretation of the actual book and as much information as JJ's miniscule collection of brain cells were able to handle.

There was no way the dumb Aussie brain could take that information overload without bursting several blood vessels.

OK aboves - he was trying to explain it in simple terms to simpletons - I accept my above post was wrong. I was not getting at Ben FGS

1984 would still be my Book for him to explain!

They think "Big Brother" is just a Reality show dreamed-up by Endemol in the Netherlands in the late 1990s

If ben says 1984 - they wouldn't have a clue

He actually did a pretty good summary of the book. Only trouble is, the book is extremely bias and was written almost as an insult to the current government at the time - so it really isn't a great 'pro elitism' arguement, since it was written by an elitist. I'm sure Ben realised this, he just hopes the others were too stupid to (which they are)

Someone is being tutored in English lit (or political philosophy) by a Marxist
