Default Josie's Anti-thumbsucking Meds - What's the Story?

I have a number of questions to ask re this anti-thumbsucking medication, which it transpires now that Josie has in her possession?

Q 1: Obviously, it is recognised by her - or someone else that thumbsucking, as witnessed, is a problem - hence need for meds - has it been prescribed medically?

Q 2: If yes - by whom?

Q 3: Did Josie bring this into the house with her at the beginning?

Q 4: Did she request this after coming into the house?

Q 5: Did BB suggest it and have it prescribed?

Q 6: Has she been using it as prescribed?

Q 7: If yes, is it proving to be effective/ineffective?

Q 8: Should it now be confiscated due to her allowing it to be musued in a bathroom prank on Sam?

Discussion, please.

Quick summary - it's just the stuff anybody who bites their nails can buy from the chemist if they wish to break their nail-biting habit. A bitter tasting nail-application (an aversion therapy by vittue of the nasty taste the stuff gives)

Essentially could be thought as being the equivalent of nicotine patches for someone who wants to try giving up smoking.

It wouldn't make any difference to her then. (An aversion therapy from the nasty taste the stuff gives) As she has bad stinking breath.

I would imagine it is much the same as the stuff you put on your nails to stop biting them - that isn't prescribed - I shouldn't imagine that would be either, can see no reason for that to be the case!

I think it's the echinacea stuff that people use to try and kick nail biting habits as well as thumbsucking.

It didn't help me stop biting my nails either TBH. Most likely becuse my bad habit (and Josie's) are a quite a deep-rooted nerves-related thing.

The full story was - she was complaining in the house, that she'd been thumb sucking - "more than normal". Presumed because they're sat around, not doing much, a lot of the time. She requested/or was prompted by BB to try the solution, and they provided it for her.

Obviously it'd be "food grade" ie. safe to consume, even so...personally i wouldn't wanna be brushing my teeth with that stuff!

They should chop her damn thumb off then - stupid woman! 24 and sucks her thumb - never heard of that before! Looked it up on the net - information only relates to very young children, as you would expect, nothing about anyone anywhere near her age sucking their thumb!

She isn't even embarrassed by it - that isn't healthy!

claymores; Julie10; wombai; jedward fever; zee; Leather Trumpet; psychotracker; fingers [hope I've got you all there].

Many thanks for your most helpful and informative replies. Have had a lot of my questions answered and have learned from your replies - hence not so curious about the whole issue now.

Leather : we pick up so much on an unconscious level - don't know where I picked the term "meds". Just seems simpler to use the term instead of the full word.

Zee: - I have been taking echinacea capsules recently as a boost for my immune system.

jedward fever: you've hit the nail on the head when you say it hasn't stopped her thumb-sucking.

IMO, Josie has quite a few noticeable responses to stress - ie. thumbsucking - often preceded by a nervous [wide] smile.

Her loud laugh [cackle?], which goes on too long, can be an indicator of stress too. IMO.

The thumbsucking is a comfort-seeking mechanism. Rather pathetic and irritating to watch in a person of her age.

the thought just occurs to me - what if JJames invites her to Australia - is she going to continue with this thumb-sucking at his mother's table? Reminds me of the film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Why? More questions! LOL!

Thanks everybody!

Its a little girl lost thing,I used to think done deliberatley but now I think it is aomething she likely does all the time. IT also helps to hide her expressions so anyone looking at her would'nt pick up what she was really thinking.

She is not a little girl lost - she is a grown woman - possibly pretending to be a little girl lost for the sympathy vote - from the more gullible!

I agree with your response, Wombai. It's downright irritating, far as I'm concerned. I remember sucking my thumb as a child - but my parents took steps to wean(?) me off it. Can't remember doing it after the age of three - or even less.

Yes, I thought that was funny too - sadly also indicates quite a level of immaturity on the part of the person who requests medicine and only takes it once because she doesn't like the taste.

I did it up to the age of 13, much to my embarrassment - but in the end - embarrassment gave me the willpower to stop! It wasn't easy - but I knew I had no choice at that age! She could do it if she really wanted to!

Maybe it gets her attention - so she chooses not to make the effort - who knows! She doesn't strike me as someone who likes to make much effort to do anything!

wombai, really read my post carefully, I do not say its a little girl lost thing and then say because she is a little girl lost,by saying its a little girl lost thing, the meaning of that is that in doing it she is trying to look vulnerable thereby to get sympathy or support.
She is a grown woman, to be fair who has had some heavy stuff to deal with in life, but this action of sucking her thumb has become a habit that wins people over for her.
I never said she WAS a little girl lost, I said the thumb sucking was a little girl lost thing.
I am rather worn out from your unwarranted exchanges with me earlier today so thats my final word on this matter, but I would ask you to do one thing, read my posts if you must but read them and 'dont' read things 'into' them that I have not meant or actually said either.
