Carpenter's Halloween and The Thing remain my two favourites.

I hear The Thing is having a remake, ready for a 2011 release... *sigh*

I heard that too about The Thing remake, I'm not too keen on remakes I feel as if they ruin them a lot of the time.

Cannot even watch Doctor Who without being tense.

Well the ironic thing is Carpenter's The Thing is kind of a remake itself. It's loosely based on the 50s sci fi The Thing from Another World.

I just don't feel the new remake will add anything extra. The 80s version still feels fairly fresh even 30 years on - it doesn't at all feel dated when I watch it.
