It was a cold foggy night, when a man alighted from a train and pulled his coat closer around him. It was nearly midnight and for some reason the man felt a twinge of unease as he realised he was alone on the platform. He thought longingly of his bed as he quickened his pace to the exit and exhaled sharply as he emerged out on to the street. There was no-one else around but he had the distinct sensation that he was being watched.
His flat was nearby, just a couple of minutes walk away, and the man found himself almost running, suddenly gripped by a strange clammy sense of fear. He was too afraid to turn around, convinced he would find himself face to face with someone or someTHING dreadful. As he ran, he fumbled for his keys and with a gasp of relief, he connected the right key in the lock straight away, turned it in one quick twist of the wrist, and leapt into his hallway. He slammed the door shut behind him, almost crying with fear, and double locked his door. Sighing with relief he hung his coat and hat on the hook, and crumpled onto his sofa, almost laughing at himself for having been so scared. It was at that moment he heard something that filled his heart with dread - a voice whispered clearly but menacingly "At last we're alone". The End Inspired by: "Like one who, on a lonely road, Doth walk in fear and dread, And, having once turned round, walks on, And turns no more his head; Because he knows a frightful fiend Doth close behind him tread." (Samuel Taylor Coleridge - The Ancient Mariner) Please add your own.

Do They Leave Ectoplasm Behind?
Ghostly lovers have been recorded for a while, even in films such as the movie The Entity with Barbara Hershey. Whether they are real or the fantasy of lonely women, you may never know. Unless you have one visit you some dark, cold night! Mrs. June of Marke-by-Sea, (near Redcar, Yorkshire England), a mature woman with a 10 year old son, became obsessed with her Ouija board. This lead, in turn, to automatic writing, the entity she had contacted being a long dead spirit called "Leonardo". He may be dead, but he still knew how to write a good love letter, Mrs. June claimed. He even claimed to have wanted a child with her. A few weeks after the automatic writing had started, Mrs. June saw a floating shadow above her bed and felt her bed clothes move. Leonardo had arrived, and was, it seemed, furious over her use of birth control pills. This doesn't seem to have dampened Leonardo's lust much, claims Mrs. June. She was quoted as saying" I would feel his presence, even his strength of feeling when he wanted to make love. He was a competent lover and must have been on earth as well. But human love is more satisfying. With spiritual love, there is no warmth of flesh." Reville, March 24, 1978 Jenny Price,20, of Shebley Lane, Wedley Castle, Birmingham UK, claimed complete satisfaction with her ghostly lover. Her family had known that the house they lived in was haunted but had never told Jenny about it. The first approach was to the elder daughter, Lorraine, but it merely touched her shoulder. Then, one night while Jenny was sitting up in bed she felt invisible hands around her neck. With great strength the hands pushed her down onto the bed. So frightened was Jenny that she couldn't scream. She thought the ghost was going to strangle her but suddenly realized that it had other intentions. After that, she was afraid to go to bed in case the attack was repeated, and a week later, it was. She soon realized that the ghost meant her no harm, however, and soon she started looking forward to it's visits. They soon started taking place as often as three times week. Three years past and the ghost still visited. The biggest problem was how to get Jenny out of bed since she stayed there constantly, waiting for her ghostly lover. Her mother, Olive, tried to get in on the action by sleeping in Jenny's bed for a week but the ghost never showed up for her. Olive had asked the local vicar what he thought about the visits, if they were immoral. The vicar replied that ghosts probably weren't bothered with morals so it was alright.

I've had a few inexplicable things happen to me in my life, but the creepiest has to be not long after my youngest brother left to flat share with a friend, and I was living alone in the family home (my dad having died there six months earlier). A couple of nights after he had moved out, I was in bed fast asleep when I was woken by the loud slamming of the front door (which I had double locked from the inside), and then heard footsteps along the corridor which stopped outside my bedroom door. Being the coward that I am, I pulled the blanket up over my head and almost stopped breathing altogether in the vain hope that whoever it was would go away. But I heard my bedroom door being pushed open and footsteps approach my bed - I swear I almost had a heart attack. At any second I thought whoever it was would pull the blanket off me and do god knows what! It was freezing cold, but I was too terrified to even shiver. For what seemed an eternity, but was probably only a minute or two, I lay rigid under the blanket, afraid to move, and barely breathing - I could sense someone standing by my bed, then just as suddenly the sensation lifted and I just knew I was alone. True enough, when I plucked up the courage to peer over the blanket the room was empty and when I went into the hallway, the front door was still locked and bolted, and there were no windows open anywhere. I slept with a light on for months afterwards but my midnight visitor didn't pay me another visit thank goodness. For about a year after this incident I kept finding pools of water in unlikely places, like the inside of a drawer, in a bookcase, and once inside my hi fi unit. Once I had hung a dress up ready to wear to work in the morning and when I woke up it was dripping wet. The water incidents were witnessed by others, and were totally inexplicable. I subsequently found out that water is supposedly a manifestation of spirit activity which did little to reassure me that the place was not haunted. I eventually moved out not longer after.

However, I was able to move but chose not to because I was trying to deceive whatever it was into thinking I was asleep! At the time I wasn't thinking ghosts but intruder! That incident aside, the events after, when I kept finding the pools of water in odd places, confirmed to me that something odd was going on. No doubt there could well be a rational reason for all of it, but I've kind of stored it away now as one of those strange episodes in my life for which I have no explanation.
