Default Buying & selling on ebay?

who buys or sells on ebay? Ive only bought a few "buy now" items in the past. Today I tried to bid on something for the first time(some Diesel trainers) but lost out. I don't really know how best to play it when bidding.

Now I actually want to sell something. But it seems the fees are quite high these days and Im not sure whether to bother.

Does anybody buy/sell on ebay?

My eBay score is 3581 (gathered since 2001) and 100% positive. Just avoid idiots whether buying or selling.

Join something called "Goofbay" for free (part of their original reason for being was to pick on numpty sellers who could not spell so you could get a geniune 'Soney' item for peanuts, hence the goof in the name).

Now it is just used as a free SNIPER - a sniper application is one where you decide the maximum you would pay for any given item, then tell the siper and it puts in your maximum bid 2 seconds before auction close. You either win or you don't. Maybe someone else had put in a higher bid days before.

Sometimes you get items for 50% less than you would have gone up to, sometimes you don't - with 2 seconds, nobody else has time to respond and you don't have time to talk yourself into bidding higher than you originally wished to.

what about waiting until the last minute and bidding? Thats what I did today but somebody got in seconds later. I was damn annoyed.

anyways Ive just seen some perfect for me brand new trainers on ebay that are buy now. So I may not have to bid for trainers now.

but if I knew about bidding I could do some damage on that site.

What ever happened to craigslist?
That was the free alternative to eBay.

They are horrible robbing bastards and charge you a selling fee at the end of the month you sell something as well as the money you pay to put your item up for sale.

If someone went in higher, that just means they sniped you because they were willing to pay more as a maximum than you.

You sound silly zipster. The other tactic is to have 2 accounts. Say, for example there is a pair of nice trainers that you realise will sell £40-£60 in 10 days on auction close - but they've opened @ 99p which attract lots of novices to watch (or to bid £5.55). That puts them on their "My eBay" and desiring to win.

Use one account to bid £25 early , then switch to the other to bid £28. That puts the price to £26 and few of the low scorers will pay any regard to that auction as they're excited of another auction which is sitting at £2.70 (nowhere near the end price). You've reduced the bidding pool!

I can't be going through all that drama for a pair of trainers. I need some asap.

But I may use those sneaky tactics for other stuff.

are you allowed to have 2 accounts? don't they have strict rules about these cheeky tactics? I dont wanna go to prison and get raped.

You already get virtual raped here Zips!

Seriously - my above advice is good - particularly the Goofbay sniper. I got into it as was buying a lot of American Football tops from USA (my passion) and a lot ended 05.31 or so. I didn't want to be sitting with baited breath @ 05.30 waiting to put my last-second bid in!

2 accounts is no problem so long as you are not "shill-bidding". This means being a seller on one account and using the other as a 'buyer' to pump-up the price on an auction.

If you already have an account with ebay and want to sell go through the motions of validating bank accounts and addresses. If you dont mind waiting, do just that, wait and every now and again they send you free posting days and weekends etc.

You arent supposed to have multiple accounts but if you use a different email addy and bank account they will never know.

As for buying something quickly if your hearts set on something on ebay and it doesnt have similar available on buy it now, as Claymores said you are better off using a sniper/bidding program to get it. They increase your chances a lot.

Top tip though if you do get done for anything and need to appear in court always always always wear a soap on a rope under your clothes, you never know it could save your ass.

LOL Shas!

As far as I know Tel (and been doing it for 10 years) having multiple accounts is not against the rules - both of mine are directly linked to my REAL PayPal account. I've never used them to shill bid to punt the price on one of my auctions. Logically if I bid as myself as a buyer, and against myself as the other bidder, it might be an Ian tactic, but only potentially costing myself more money.

When I need to shill or a friend does when acting as a seller, I get a friend to do it via a quiet email and vice-versa.

My mate had a rare bottle of whisky sitting @ £100 with 1 hour to go when it was worth at least £200. I just bid £290 for him. If I'd won, we'd just have forgotten about it, but my shill for him pushed it into a bidding frenzy between 2 genuine punters so it reached £460

Yeah your right, its only if you default on one, whatever action they take against you applies to all accounts. So if they ban you on one account without realising you have more, you are supposed to respect the ban etc.

Happened to a mate of mine who sold (still sells) fake autographed prints on ebay.

If I want to sell something for £20 with £3 p&p...

what would my selling fees be about? You have paypal fees too, right? And do you have to pay the fees even if you don't sell?

and can you sell porn on ebay? I have a friend(cough) who may have a couple of dvd films to sell.

Don't be lazy - listing and final valuation fees are clearly listed on eBay's site!

Yeah sure zips - eBay is a good way to rid yourself of those child porn movies and automatic assault rifles that are sitting in your 'friend's' cupboard. Doh! Thank got my AK47 went to that high bidder from Afghanistan - phew - got away with that.

Don't be silly
