Default Has technology gone too far?

Has technology gone too far?

Phones, ipods, games consoles, laptops etc, with updated "new and improved" versions of these products coming out every few weeks, then we have all of the social networking sites, online gaming, online gambling and on and on.

I think it can help in some ways to make some people's daily routines easier for instance someone with a disabilty that prevents them from getting out much could use emails and instant messaging to keep in touch with family and friends and it greatly benefits health care but I also think it isolates people and makes them lazy.

I dont really care, until they start making 'titan's with AI. That day will be a very scary day

I'm convinced we are going to wipe ourselves out with what we keep inventing, one day we will stick AI in a bunch of things and they will turn on us and make us slaves. And i'm not joking either :/

Yeah, I hate tech really. Never been into all gadgets and that. And with Wii, people don't even leave their homes anymore, just get fit there

Not really.

I'm all for the future, I just didn't think it would happen this fast.

If you think back to say a perfect example actually - all gamers will agree, 2006.
Barely 5 years ago, and think of how content we were with our little PS2s and that - we actually thought these graphics were amazing:

Spoiler:

Where as now we have this:

Spoiler:

So I mean I always thought of the 'future' as something with flying hover cars and alot of really advanced things like the iPad - to be decades and decades away, I had an idea I would probably be in my 50s by the time a flying car comes out, where as we could probably see a popularity in hover cars taking off in 4 Years time.

It's crazy how fast it's going and let's be honest; SOME people - do take it way to far and always want to be the 'first' at releasing revolutionary things so shove new versions down our throats at laughable prices.

Yes, to a degree I believe it has. People (in developed countries) have become too reliant upon modern technology. What about a time when technology goes down for a day or even a week? It could happen. And then what? Life would come to stand still for most people (again in developed countries) and they would not know what to do with themselves.

I'm not saying technology is a bad thing, it is helpful, but becoming too reliant on it is damaging.

Ben that reminds me of that one episode in South Park where the internet went for a week.

And Randy Marsh had to travel to California to watch Porn.
The whole world was in distress, and tbh - I would love to see that in real life.

The internet - just gone for like a week.
Just to see what everyone does How we react and stuff.

That'll be a new 'Social Experiment'

'Day 3 - The world has gone without Internet for the past 72 Hours.'

-Shot of people eating eachother and crying in the corner-

'This is Dave from Essex, he use to spend 11 Hours a day on Facebook now he has to use other methods...'

-Shot of Dave writing 'Dave Dislikes This' on a Brick wall.-

Hmmmm I'm stumped really as in some ways it needs to go on and on IMO. In the medical field for example. But on the other hand you have the scary side like cameras getting smaller and smaller and used for crime (perverts/terror etc)

The thing is, no matter what, it'll never stop. People always want better/faster/smaller/quicker blah blah blah.

The only people that it wouldn't effect would be those in 3rd world countires. The rest of us would be sent into chaos. I actually want that to happen as I'm actually quite bored of hearing people harp on about technology nowadays and how you MUST have the latest gadgets blah blah blah. I feel like shaking those people and telling them to get a life.

What we need is a good power outage :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_Blackout_of_2003

Quote:
The Northeast Blackout of 2003 was a widespread power outage that occurred throughout parts of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States and Ontario, Canada on Thursday, August 14, 2003, at approximately 4:11 p.m. EDT (UTC−04). At the time, it was the second most widespread blackout in history, after the 1999 Southern Brazil blackout. The blackout affected an estimated 10 million people in Ontario and 45 million people in eight U.S. states.
Roughly equivalent to Wales and England .....

In some ways yes, other ways no.

I do think its killing a lot of social interaction and making people lazy. Its getting to the point now where people want to just stay at home and do absolutely everything via their computer. I particularly think its damaging to young kids because theyre not learning social skills and becoming sociaphobic. It gonna get worse with future generations.

It's all down to personal responsibility. Notebooks and phones are a wonderful thing. People who need a new one every six months because they are paranoid of being out of touch are idiots.

The internet is great. Staying on it all day and never picking up a book is silly. It's killing kids attention spans. It's the most powerful source of information on the planet yet we are getting stupider as a people.

In some respects yes. I think the speed at which Apple are churning iPhones, iPads etc is frightening. Why couldn't they just release a new one every 5 years? What's the rush?!

Agreed with what you said about parents bringing up their kids. Technology is great but younger kids shouldn't be allowed on for too long and should always know the dangers of the internet. Plus they should be encouraged to go outside. Even the kids programmes today are discouraging going outside.
