Default Desperate Housewives to end next year

Quote:
The next series of Desperate Housewives will be the last, TV network ABC said.

Its creator Marc Cherry told a gathering of TV critics in Los Angeles he wanted the show to go out "in the classiest way possible".

ABC says the eighth series, which will run in the US from 25 September to May 2012, will be "a victory lap".

The international hit show, which tells of the lives and loves of neighbours in Wisteria Lane in the fictional suburban town of Fairview, began in 2004.

The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning show, which stars actresses including Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross, has seen ratings fall in recent years.
'Bittersweet and lovely'

"The only thing harder than creating a hit show is knowing when to end, especially when you have one of most amazing casts in the history of television," Cherry told reporters.

"I am very aware of people overstaying their welcome.

"I wanted to got out while the network still saw us as a viable show, while we were still a force to be contended with."

He said he and ABC had "made this decision together".

Calling cast members to tell them the news had been "bittersweet and lovely", he added.

"I think you are going to find they are smart enough to be grateful," he said.

ABC said the final series of the show, which is aired in the UK on Channel 4, would include more love affairs, disintegrating marriages and guilty feelings about a murder.
about 4 years too late but oh well.

Season 4 was the last good season. After the 5 year jump it went downhill. I still love it, and would like it to continue, but the time's right.

I still think there's a lot of life left in it but that freaky creator has shown he can't do it anymore. Seasons 5 and 6 were woeful. 7 was better, but still not excellent.

It's a shame really because there is potential but 8 years is a great run and at least it has the chance to end properly.

It happened to Ugly Betty and I knew it was going to happen sooner or later to Desperate Housewives. I think it's for the best, considering storylines are being re-used on different characters.

Used to be really into this when it first started, but then it sort of lost it's way.

I'm glad it's ending and hope the next season is actually good again!

Spoiler:

Apparently the mystery will be about the Young family again (I'm guessing Zach seeing as Paul went back to jail in S7) so perhaps it'll be good

Season 1 was the best because there was so much happening and it managed comedy and drama really well

S2 was my personal favourite cos it was darker, it's the most desperate they've all been at one single time, and the aftermath of the Paul/Mike/Felicia thing was still watchable. Bree was at her best then too

S3 started crap because you could tell it was different writers, and then the mystery was rushed cos of Marcia Cross' pregnancy and then the rest of the season turned to sh!t because of how lighter it got and because you just knew Gabby and Susan would get back together with Carlos and Mike. And what the hell was the point with the pizzeria and Edie's suicide attempt? It had a lto going on but it just didn't make any sense. Even visually there were less night scenes from here.

S4 was ok cos it was a bit darker again and Katherine was amazing and the stories were different (Lynette's cancer, Gabby coping with Carlos' blindness, Mike and Susan expecting) but was too short cos of the writer's strike.

* Should have ended there *

S5 was a horrible mess. The 5 year jump was supposed to freshen the show but imo it ruined it. Carlos got his sight back and Gabby was back to her old self in no time and I solved the mystery after episode 1! Katherine was boring, Bree and Orson were boring, Lynette and her kids were boring, yet again we just knew Susan was gonna get back with Mike so that was boring and the disaster episode (fire) was crap compared to the tornado and hostage ones. And the 100th episode was a let down.

S6 started sh!t because of how S5 ended - that wedding (told you Susan would get back with Mike), Lynette holding the longest recorded pregnancy (s5 finale to S6 finale), Bree and Karl's boring affair, Gabby and her neice? The Bolen's were boring as ******, Eddie was blatantly the strangler because he appeared from nowhere, Katherine just turnign lesbian and fleeing was an insult to her character, and the plane crash was the worst disaster ever. At least the finale set S7 on the right track

S7 was still light and panto compared to S1-4 but at least it tried to come full circle bringing Paul and Felicia back. And Renee was a good Edie replacement but criminally underused. After Paul's shooting it got worse again but Gabby FINALLY got a meaty story in the final few eps! And once Orson left Bree was free to try new stories again!

I just want S8 to be darker again, have more (and better) stories, include a few more night scenes, use all the characters to their full potential, and have a decent thought-out mystery like S1 again

Season 1 - Amazing
Season 2 - Great
Season 3 - Good
Season 4 - Not as good as S2
Season 5 - Was okay (didn't like the 5 year jump)
Season 6 - Bad
Season 7 - Better than S6 but still not great

Thought I'd just share this to prove how dark, depressing, emotional but amazing the S2 finale was compared to S3 onwards

I was so sad when I found out, because DH is my favourite tv show, been watching it since 2004. Season 4 is my favourite, season 5 and 6 were meh, but season 7 was really good. I could watch DH all day long and not get bored of it. Hopefully, season 8 will be great and end with a bang. <3 I'm sad just thinking about the end.

Look how different they look now than from when it started...

Season 1: Looks natural and like normal(ish) people.

Season 4: Looking more glamorous, ew at Katherine's dress!

Season 7: Looking air brushed and retouched ..but sexy!

I hope they dont through in any new characters for the last season. Just stick to the 4 main ones, and Mary-Alice ..coz shes never gonna go away. Renee needs a better storyline aswell.

This is what I think will happen...
-Tom and Lynette get back together/get married again or something.
-Gabby and Carlos get away with Gabbys step-dads murder.
-Carlos forgives Bree and their friends again.
-Something to do with Zach, maybe Paul breaks out of jail and kills him lol
-Bree marries that cop guy and they live happily ever after.
-Carlos and Gabby discover that Juanita is actually their biological daughter after all.
-Mary Alice's corpse comes to life and terrorises the lane.
-An atomic bomb hits Wisteria Lane and kills everyone.
-Sperm and Eggs of everyone on Wisteria Lane survive, reproduce, then open it up for a comeback in a few years time.

Mary Alice's was the best cos it was complex, got all the housewives involved and they each got something out of it.

The S3 mystery wife Orson annoyed me because you could tell it was quickly made up by new writers because it didn't tie in with how S2 ended with Mike thinkign he recognised Orson from prison, or Orson's connection to the woman inn the mental assylum. Instead it was just that Mike coincidentally was fixing Monique's sink or whatever the night Gloria murdered her lol

Yeah the hostage ep and the one where the mystery was solved were good but S3 was over all pretty poor imo. S2 gets abad rep but at least the characters developed and got more desperate.

S3 started off slow, then the hostage ep kicked off the stories but as soon as the mystery was wrapped up it was 10 episodes of drivel ¬_¬

This. It was a shame Marcia's pregnancy interrupted the story so they rushed the ending. Other than that season 1 was the only great mystery they managed to sustain for the full run of episodes. Hopefully season 8 can give us one final great, dark mystery that runs through the full season.

As much as I liked Paul and Felicia's return there wasn't really a mystery.

It wasn't new writers. The ending changed and was brought forward because Marcia Cross left earlier to have her babies and also the guy who played Orson had a really positive reaction from fans so they decided to keep him on. Which meant the story changed from him having murdered his wife to his wife returning after faking her death and his mother being the baddie.

From what I remember anyway.

Edit - That's just reminded me, the scene when his wife falls from the roof and dies sums DH up perfectly. It was very dark and creepy yet it had me on the floor laughing because she was shouting but someone had their earphones in or something and couldn't hear her.
