Question Which Tower suffered the most damage?

I was watching a documentary last night - and I was just wondering what WTC Tower actually suffered the most damage?

Because the first tower that was struck by a plane, stood standing longer than the second tower - which fell a few minutes or so before the original tower.

So I'm just curious by what had greater damage done to it?

Also - does anyone know if the death toll was higher in Tower 1 or Tower 2?

I think the South Tower suffered the Most damage (First to collapse)

I would have thought the one that was hit lower down as those above would have had not much chance of saving themselves and more floors would have been affected the lower down it struck.

In the first tower all the staircases were destroyed so anyone above were it hit were trapped, the south still had one intact but then the plane was faster and hit lower down and took out more floors so i'm guessing that one caused the most damage.

More people died in the north.

The second one to be hit because it was hit lower down so there was more pressure to support the unstable building above it which is why it collapsed sooner. As soon as the top started to twist the bottom half buckled under the immense weight of it because it was supporting double its designated weight but the one that was hit near the top could obviously withstand the pressure for that little bit longer

There was a woman on This Morning the other day who was on the 84th floor and ran down the stairs (probably over 160 flights of stairs) and it took her 80 minutes. About 5 minutes after she got out, the tower collapsed. It was the one that was hit higher up, I'm not sure which is north/south

The North Tower had the Antenna on top, and it was also called WTC1, it's easy to remember because the antenna on top looked like a number 1.

The terrorist that hit the first one hit it quite high up allowing more people below where the plane hit to escape, but even though the second one hit much lower and came down quicker, a lot of people had already evacuated as it was something like 10 minutes after the first plane hit that the second plane did.

Surely if you were in the second tower though, you could of or should of managed to of ran and evacuated the building? Or get as low to ground floor as possible - as soon as you seen the damaged down to the first tower?

Unfortunately, because no one thought it was a terrorist attack at first, they told the people in the second tower to remain calm, and not to evacuate. Many more people could have got out if they didn't say that.

Most people in the second tower hit didn't start to evacuate til it was also hit.

Also, no one thought that the towers would collapse, that's why so many FF died.

I couldn't begin to imagine the absolute fear going through her then - can imagine the adrenlin surging through her body and her literally running down, grabbing rails to stabilise her at corners with sheer panic/terror - with the brain just shouting, "Keep running, come in, get out, get out".

Poor woman, but fantastic that her quick response got her out.

I remember being absolutely mortified watching footage of people jumping from the windows on the news. One of those things that makes you wonder what your own reaction would be in a situation like that. Unimaginable how terrifying it must be to know you're going to die and there's no way out.

Did you see the interview with her? it completely messed her up and she ended up with a drug addiction and to be honest I can't blame her. If it was me I would have ended up sectioned or killing myself, couldn't live after enduring something like that

The thing I find really sad is some of the pictures and the close up pictures really scare me for some reason. the ones where you can see people with their white flags or even those falling are really upsetting. It must have been very lonely, you couldn't even imagine what they were thinking. For those who were falling it must have been the longest 8 seconds of their life. In some ways its good that the second tower came down so soon

I've always wondered whether I'd jump or just wait to be crushed. either way it would be a long wait

i don't think anyone in there thought the towers would collapse, it was more about the smoke and fire that meant suffocation or burning.

Once the first tower had gone down those who were left in the other one must have thought it

I was just thinking last night aswell, imagine how horrible and shocking it would of been to be more concerned about the smoke and flames, and trying to help eachother - and then all of a sudden, the whole floor just falls through and you find yourself falling among the bricks and rubble - to your death, when the tower collapsed - it must of been absolutely horrible.

Behind it all, the thing that got me: was despite those fiming it and in the background, never at one point, despite the hell and destruction unfolding - not once did I hear one of the swear or curse. ...worse word I heard was 'sh*t'.

Hearing the woman in the apartment sobbing was completey heart wrenching. Tragic beyond belief and I my heart goes out to everyone that's been affected personally, in having lost loved ones or having been maimed by these awful attacks on this most hellish of anniversary.

The ending of that video is possibly the most frightening thing I've ever heard.

The title of that video sounds a bit disrespectful. I'm not sure why I think that, but it just does.

Will watch it later though.
