Default I think £50K for the winner is incredibly stingy!

I think £50K for the winner is incredibly stingy. Back in the day on Aussie BB, they gave the winner $1Million, at least once that i remember..which is approx £650K in today's money. And i think the winner gets $500K on US BB. Maybe when BB UK was in it's prime they made a lot on magazine deals etc.. but i can't see it now.

I think they should raise the prize money to at least £250K, that ways you'd get a lot more serious game player types auditioning, a much more diverse range of people, and no need to keep picking from these model wannabe, fame desperado's! Plus, with a big increase in prize money it should add more media attention and general interest in the show.

I know C5 is likely on a tight budget, but they paid £40Million for the series, anyways. So such a small prize for the winner seems not only unfair, but irrational, imho.

(PS. i re posted this from a comment i made in the "Aaron has £10" thread, i thought it might be worthy of having a discussion about the prize money).

I don't think it is. They will generate more money through many other deals that come from being the BB winner.

I think for most people the biggest reward is finishing top.

The fact that louise and tom will get something annoys the hell out of me. They deserve NOTHING!

Didn't the prize fund reduce to £50,000 in BB6 when Eugene stole half the money? I think I remember Liam taking some of the money in BB8 too and BB10's Sophie only won something like £80,000 because they lost the rest by not winning enough tasks.

It's not the first time it's been done. and hey, at least they get something. This BB hasn't exactly been as hard for them as previous years, they've had a nice big house, booze near enough every night and numerous parties and takeaways all the time. I wouldn't complain if I won £50,000 for a two month holiday.

So, what do you think about the winner of US BB getting $500K?

Considering the length of the show, and the difficulty the Hm's go through to win it, it's very stingy.

200k is more like it, you'll have the Freddie Crougars coming out of the woodwork to claim it though

Personally, I think that twist has been brought in because BB have Jay or Alex in their sights to win....... but Aaron's fanbase has thrown them completely.

*yes... just a smidgen bitter & loathing BB's behaviour towards Aaron at this end eh! LOL *

I don't think there are "many other deals" for current BB winners.

Consider Craig Phillips, Brian Dowling, Kate Lawler, Cameron Stout, Nadia Almada, Anthony Hutton, Pete Bennett, Brian Belo, Rachel Rice, Sophie Reade and Josie Gibson

The last winner to make big money was Pete Bennett and that was mostly made up of his biography advance.

A few recent HMs, including Samanda, have made signicant amounts, but the rest rapidly disappear into obscurity or eke a precarious living for the paps for a few months.

Obviously, this year's winner will be feted by the Star, but he (or she) will forgotten by Xmas - HMs don't even get offered panto nowadays (and that's a nice little earner).

It'd be interesting to know in comparison what a cast member of a "moderately" successful soap would get paid for appearing on approx 70 1hr episodes. I'm absolutely not suggesting that they should be paid like that, but just giving another perspective. And let's not forget they're fighting for a 1/15 shot at 50K.

This is a tricky question. On one hand, 50 K for a couple of months of loitering is a lot of money in comparison to what ordinary people earn. On the other hand, the housemates have to be able to leave their lives (and jobs etc.) for months, so not a lot of people are able to do that (Plus there's a chance that the publicity that follows the person afterwards is not positive). I suppose that's one of the reasons the housemates are quite young. They haven't yet build up proper lives, so they'll be able to jump in. So maybe bigger prize money would tempt other types of people to try out for BB. However, it's still BB that's choosing the housemates and it has everything to do with what kind of outcome they have in mind. I mean even though they'd say that it doesn't matter to them who wins the show, they still have think about the probable house dynamics before hand in order to have a clue what the show will be like. After so many years of BB, I think the applicants are mostly fame hungry (some luckily are also after the experience) and they all try to get in by being controversial, which they usually are not in real life nor in the house.

I think the driving force behind what type of Hm we get is the average viewer, we want the sex scandals, and the bitching, and the arguments. BB probably reject so many great potential Hm's because they want to fill every second with mayhem.

Made me laugh after all the work Aaron has put in to his game plan, all they manipulation of Faye and others , the hours spent giving people the silent treatment to get his own way . They have taken half the prize money just when it was in his greedy grasp . £50.000 is not a life changing amount of money in this day and age . Also last week he said he was going to spent all the £100.000 on himself when his "true love" Faye was sitting on the sofa beside him ,there's generosity for you

Haha i don't remember Aaron saying that. Faye's got her self a keeper there!

A bloke i work with won 100k on a Poker site we expected him to give up work but after he'd done the maths, i.e interest form a bank, and investment potential he decided to continue working.

50k is a new car, a deposit on a mortgage and a trip to Disney Land. Is it worth the stress, If Alex wins it at least she can say she enjoyed her time in there, has Aaron i wonder!

and he also said in the sauna, that if Faye won, he would not want her to spend the money on HIM.... he'd want her to spend it on her.

A wee bit of balance goes a long way.

He did, but don't let facts get in the way. You're ruining it for some people who can't see past the hate...

That's a lot of money, yes, and i'm sure both the viewers in the UK and the UK contestants would much prefer that amount because it would make things a lot more exciting. If we'd always had that much given to the winner here and suddenly now the winner only got £50,000 then i'd be annoyed, but that's not the case, so i'm not really bothered to be honest.

I suppose it's the same issue how The UK X Factor winner gets a £1m recording contract whereas the US X Factor winner gets a $5m recording contract and a pepsi commercial. I don't really know what to say. It might be unfair but that's the way it is.

Fair enough, I usually switch off from BB when it's ended, assuming the winners cashed it in through other avenues.

Yeah, that's one of the main points i was making, was regardless of whether you felt the money was truly "earned", the additional prize money can only make the show more exciting, with the additional hype & buzz.

Prove that you know why Aaron would say something.

You cannot read minds - otherwise you'd be out making your fortune elsewhere, instead of frittering the time away, posting on a forum. Of that, I AM SURE of.
