Default Have you ever used the internet to self-diagnose and scared yourself?

I've been really stupid and had this pain in my head (it was one shooting pain in the top of my head that lasted like three seconds) and I stupidly used the internet to try and diagnose myself and managed to convince myself that I have a brain tumour despite not having all over the symptoms. I keep telling myself that I haven't been sick of felt sick (that being one of the main symptoms) and yet I keep worrying..

I just wanted to know if anyone had done the same thing.. would be nice to know I'm not in this boat alone. I'm doing my head in here!! lol.

...or that you can't expect a reply in 6 minutes during off season

I do it all the time, must have died about 10 times over with all the tumours I've had

Hahaha, true.. I'm just stressing myself here.

It's made me really anxious too. But I'm glad there are other people that have done the same thing. I've learned my lesson now though, I will never ever use the internet to self diagnose myself again.

You say that now, but you'll do it again when you've got a cold/flu or something and convince yourself you've got lung cancer because the symptoms are the same

Oh ya ya.

I once dropped a mercury thermometer when I was home alone and I just cleared it up like normally. Then I looked it up online and it was like "YOU WILL DIE!!" and I was like meh. But I didn't die.

Haa. Scary stuff. I find that when I sit and worry about it I feel like I've got the symptoms which makes me worry even more, but when I've manged to convince myself I haven't got it my 'symptoms' go away. So annoying! lol

I've done it before when I kept having this pain in my arm which I assumed was something to do with my vein and I convinced myself I had blood cancer.

I did it once and never again, so many different things have similar or a crossover of symptoms that you end up scaring yourself stupid! If I'm worried I just get myself down the doctors instead, I'd rather waste their time than mine

They could be Ice pick headaches and can be caused by something as simple as not eating enough.

Only all the time. Watching medical dramas doesn't help either.

I think most do at some point. You're looking for reassurance but most of the time end up being told you're already dead

Try not to fret. Doctor if worried!!!!!

Did you see the news report of some loony on t-internet who was logged-into a somewhere site and advising suicidal people on a chat to go ahead n do it and 'here's the best way' ?????? A virtual Harold Shipman No.2 potentially, depending on how many read his insane posts.

I'm ashamed to say yes I have. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll yell you that I am the person least likely to worry over anything.. I can't stand hypochondria and I get really annoyed with people who self diagnos on the net.

Earlier this year however, I had an incident which puzzled me so I Google it and the first thing that came up was Ovarian cancer... I ended up on Valium! I really don't know how worriers do it and u hope to never be worried like that again. I couldn't eat or sleep, cried all the time and eventually had a massive panic attack at work... it was absolutely horrible! I will never ever Google any health problem again!

If you're worried, get yourself checked, it'll be a weight off when you get the all clear!
