Conservative. Aside from the fact I work for them - which in no way guarantees I would vote for them - I know my local MP and he is a good man. He is not likely ever to join the cabinet because he isn't a bum-kisser and doesn't always toe the party line. Not having a flashy Westminster job means he has more time to work for to the people who put him in Parliament in the first place and he never forgets he is a public servant. If my local MP was a tosser, I would vote for someone else based upon their background, policies and achievements.

Then he is in the wrong party. The right has corporate pay masters to answer to.

The austerity measures they've introduced are a war on poor people, whilst all the time protecting the bankers that caused this mess.

Ask your boss how many bankers have been prosecuted.

Labour - basically because I really like our local MP for them who was in charge for years and does alot more for the community than the tosser we have now for the Tories, who doesn't even live anywhere near the area.

Probably Lib Dem, but to be quite honest after doing sociology I don't think any of the main three parties encompass most of, if not all of my political beliefs. There might not even be one in existence for all I know. But I'm holding back for now...by the time the next election comes around hopefully I'll be able to back someone.

By explaining your vote you left yourself open to a reply, which is all I did. If your justification for voting is you like the man you work for, then that is your business, not mine.

However, the minute you share that information on a public forum, what do you expect? Good to see someone that works for a politician, only willing to discuss politics for money. The Tories have taught you well.

The thread asks who you will vote for and the opening post asks you to supply your reasons why. The clue is in the words. As far as I can see, it does not say, have a pointless political arument with someone who is clearly anti-tory, quite hostile and doesn't understand the fact I am a "professional Conservative" and that my vote is always my own choice. And for the sake of clarity, I don't work for a politician, I work for the Party. My degree is in law, not politics.

People voted and didn't give reasons. I was one of them, until I saw your post.

But you're probably right, it's better to only engage people that like the Tories. That way, you, me, and everyone else, can continue to live happily in our own political bubbles, without ever being challenged on it.

But I'll leave this little discussion here, before I raise your ire even further.

You decided to reply to my post. Why? Because it had the word "Tory" in it.

I made it clear in my first post and in my second that because I work for a political party it doesn't meant that I would necessarily vote for them. You saw the word "Tory" and it was like a red rag to a bull. Have you seen me pick up anyone on this thread in the same hostile manner you approached me, because they say they would vote for someone other than the Conservatives? No. The most important thing for me is that people vote for someone they've chosen because they've thought about it.

I replied, not because it had Tory in, but because you said that you vote conservative because you like your local MP and believe him to be a good man, whilst at the same time the party is waging a war on poor people. I guess we have differing opinions on the definition of "good," but that's OK.

My gripe isn't solely with the Tories. Across the world, we have right wing politicians telling us that the poor are all freeloaders, and they've managed to convince a lot of people that this is truth. You can't cut your way out of a recession.

As for waffle, voting for a party because you know a good man that works for them, is a fairly lame (but personal to you, nonetheless) reason. I prefer voting for an ideology, rather than figure heads or nice people, but I accept that we're all different.

It wasn't a personal dig at all. You introduced waffling and I into the same context prior to that, so I was trying to make fun of it, if anything. Apologies about the size of the pic. I posted it quickly before going to feed the cat. I sincerely didn't know it was that big.

I could be persuaded to vote for any party other than the 3 main parties.

However,I can see some good in Labour policies and also admire a great many of the Conservative party policies.
The one thing I will likely do in the next election is where I vote,make sure I vote for the party under threat from the Lib Dems and I will also help canvass and make sure as best I can that the Lib Dems get trounced for what I see as their massive betrayal of trust from their voters at the last election.
That would mean I would have to then vote for the Conservative party as things stand.
