Has anyone noticed this? We seem to get loads now and it's not even in the day, they've started doing it in the evening. All that PPI nonsense. Also I got one lot ringing me up telling me they were Microsoft and my PC was badly infected and they needed access to my computer

Were they trying to gain remote access or something? I was half asleep when they did it and almost went through with it

Yeah, my mum's had the Computer one, but she doesn't even have a computer!!!!! She keeps telling them this and then a week later they phone again.
I don't have a landline, so rarely get bothered with this but what I have, and it's very annoying, is loads of charity collectors calling to the door in an evening for this, that and the other. I don't think they should be allowed to do it tbh. I think of elderly people who struggle to get to the door and then probably don't feel they can say no. Anyone else get this? |

I'm not 100% sure, probably to try and access your bank account/credit card details or something

Got one from the local council
Saying they are giving free energy checks to households who earn under a certain amount and they'll pay a one off bill. Seems dodgey as hell, the letter is poorly laid out..if it is a scam then the people who did it are in the ****

It works. I registered and so did my parents and within about four weeks all the unsolicited calls stopped. It's against the law for people to contact you on a cold call if you're registered with the Telephone Preference Service. I have access to the electoral roll and people registered have TPS next to their telephone number.

I'm registered with the TPS which is great, but in case of any new cold callers I simply say, "oh can you hang on a moment, someone at the door", then leave the phone till they hang up having spent money waiting for you. Alternatively, keep a vuvuzela next to your phone, and anyone really persistent, can get a good blast down the phone before you hang up. Repeat as often as necessary. Great fun.
