Classic gameshow Catch Phrase could return with a revamped format following the acquisition of its rights by distributor DRG.

The show, created by Pasetta Productions and Steven Radosh, will be offered to international buyers at the MipTV market in Cannes at the end of the month.

The format, in which contestants attempt to guess well-known catchphrases depicted by computer animation, will be updated with new 3D graphics and a fresh end game.

The original series ran for more than 300 episodes on ITV from 1986 to 2002, presented by Roy Walker.

DRG, which has secured the worldwide rights, will attempt to sell TV, licensing, merchandings and digital media opportunities.

Andrea Jackson, managing director of acquisitions and formats at DRG, said: “Catch Phrase is a popular show both in the UK and internationally and we are thrilled to be bringing it back as a new, exciting updated format.

“The show will retain its original qualities, but will feature unique, contemporary game play offering multiple opportunities for exploitation across consumer products and online.”
