It was Terrible back when the Blairs New Labour got in a messs with a Strike.. A minister today said gerry cans but the Fire Stations say - No you can not store them in your Garage. So he retracted that , later. The Army getting ready to trake over if the Strike goes ahead, And What the hell is the Strike about? as they get £45K Is this the sign of things to come? First petrol stations close as Cabinet minister urges drivers to fill up any spare jerry cans Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz1qQA5mEUe Last edited by arista; 28-03-2012 at 02:16 PM. |

Francis Maude is a moron. If he did say that he probably doesn't even remember it. I'm waiting for the day his press officer shoots himself... or Francis.

I fail to see firstly why any strike should be necessary and secondly why such a directive needed to be given by any cabinet Minister, worse still the PM.
The very slightest hint that something may soon be in short supply for a time, immediately has the less responsible and selfish going out gathering all they can. In January a bad forecast for the weather was made predicting arctic temperatures and lot's of frost and ice likely, in less than 3 days the supermarket near me had no salt. Crazy. also as pointed out above, the advice given to fill cans and store petrol in garages was not only foolish but dangerous too. |

I totally agree as I often do with you arista, I cannot see any major reason whatsoever as to things being so bad to warrant any strike action.

Why will Labour not sort this out its their Union Money they have Bloody Earn It. Petrol Stations are now running out as to many are panic buying and filling up to the top. And some even take gerry cans, "Safety Working Hours" that can be sorted - they get £45K for fecks sake. Last edited by arista; 28-03-2012 at 03:39 PM. |

I am getting fed up with people striking as it just hits us poor spods trying to go about our business - I have a 60 mile round trip to work and back every day so this is going to have a major impact - I can't afford to lose my job. This doesn't hurt anyone but Joe public and these tanker drivers earn a bliddy good wage if you ask me maybe if they had no work they would appreciate the money a bit better *steps off soap box*

Really, from what I have read and seen on documentaries, the Unions brought down the Labour Govt in 1979,so I doubt really any party can influence the Unions once they decide they want action of some sort. I agree, the issue this Union has now though does not need any strike action whatsoever in my view. |

"Safety Working Hours"
that can be sorted - they get £45K for fecks sake. So you think as they earn a decent wage they should be worked to death....Can I just remind you of one important issue....They drive tankers full of flammable liquid around... Who would get the blame if a diver fell asleep and caused a major catastrophe?....

This is what Ed actually said...
This morning Labour leader Ed Miliband said a strike 'has got to be avoided' and called for negotiation on both sides. He said: 'They've said that they want to get round a table, they should get round a table, and I think this strike can be avoided and it must be avoided.' They want to talk... Why is the government not talking to them? Because they are too busy whipping the nation into a frenzy about it....
