Aw its a shame they didn't get that bill through isn't it....the one where employers can sack people at will? Then none of this silly business would be happening would it?...

Labour was always going to side with the union because Unite is one of Labour's biggest backers. Their union backing is the reason Labour shat themselves when the Conservatives suggested a Ł50,000 limit on donations. Seems they only want to stop large donations to other parties.

If they do strike, and people can't get petrol, and goods can't get into the shops, and non-emergency hospital appointments are cancelled, and schools are closed etc. etc. etc... let's see how much sympathy and support the well-paid tanker drivers get from Joe Public then... not that they seem to have too much right now.

Does anyone actually know why the 'well paid' tanker drivers are threatening to strike ...Or are you just blowing hot air?

Do you think comments like that add a little gravitas to your argument?

Like i said yesterday it is a dangerous job.
Given the article is written by the Unite union leader for me it holds little sway. All the strike will do is make life hell for Joe public and there is nothing we can do about it - the politicians don't care thier lives won't be impacted - it's just thoughtless on the part of the strikers in my opinion and playing the dangerous job card doesn't hold a lot of weight for me.

About as much as your suggestion that the labour party 'shat' themselves did in your comment earlier is my guess.....

Well it wouldn't would it your not the one DOING the dangerous job are you?...
Typical 'Im alright jack attitude'
One point i will agree on, the politicians do NOT care, Mr Cameron the least.
He wants the public to put pressure on the union to back down ...He caused the rush to the pumps to facilitate that...

People who complain about striking need to take history into perspective. Without unions, there would be no minimum wage, sickness benefits, mat/paternity pay, holiday, maximum working hours, rules against child labour, decent working conditions etc.

These things affect us all, and even Arista uses sickness/holiday benefits without realising how he got them.

People need to stop being so short-sighted about how issues with fuel affect us here in this minute. Strikes and unions improve working conditions for us all, and I say this as an employer.

Lets not take too much from Mr Rowntree, as an employer he saw his workers were treated respectfully. In this 'modern' era that has been overshadowed by greed and capitalist ethics.
I totally agree with you ...People do not realise how they got to be in the position they are in, unions play an important role.

How do you know I don't do a dangerous job??? Do you know me personally - thought not before you take that attitude and I'm allowed to have my say just as much as you and my opinion - did I dig at you in my post - that would be no. I would go on about capitalising the word doing but just can't be bothered - you obviously don't want a serious debate just your own way.

Of course i don't know you, or what you do ...I have not suggested you are not entitled to your opinion..
My 'attitude' is simply a reflection of my view on this topic and not a slur on you personally. If you misread it as such im sorry.
If you can be bothered i would love to debate this issue with you further.
