Default Car insurance for young people

Sorry I know that I've not been on here at all recently but I needed somewhere to rant as I've had such a stressful evening looking at car insurance. I now understand what people are talking about when they moan about car insurance - a Ford Fiesta 1.25 (2000) is coming out at about 8K for a year?! Even the band 1 insurance cars are coming out at about 2K and that's about the cheapest I can get it down to. Have been looking at a company that actually fit a box in your car so that you can't drive between 11pm and 5am and that takes my insurance to about £1600 but that's still extortionate! It's actually cheaper to go fully comp believe it or not! Any advice from anyone driving on good companies for young drivers or some hints and tips on cars etc and the most affordable deals.

Hope you're all okay too! I've been so busy at college with my a-levels and working out which direction I want to go in next that I've not had time to come on here - looks like forensic psychology seems to be my calling at the moment but that'll change by the time I get round to applying for uni's etc I expect!

Have you been to an Insurance broker at all, they can shop around and will know Insurers that specialise in young drivers? I used to work for an Insurance broker called Towergate a few years ago and the best deals for young drivers they had were through Aviva and Equity Red Star.

With regards to Insurance groups, different Insurers have different group ratings for different cars, so it's definately worth trying a few as they will not all be the same

You could also try increase your excess and things like estmated yearly mileage and where the vehicle is kept overnight can make a difference too...you may have already tried these tho..

My first insurance was £1,200 and the car was awful (which added I guess!) But it was still ridiculous.. considering my sisters when she passed was something like £400

Yeah I hate that females get cheaper car insurance, it's a joke, I mean they're not better drivers because they have ovaries? It's always peeved me!

My ex gf, when I was about 18, was taking me away for my birthday, and as we approached the motorway, she thought the line to cross onto it, meant you had too stop and wait, not speed up and merge. The most frightening experience of my life.

She backed cars all the way up behind, and everyone was flashing as they were coming along the motorway. She had to wait for a gap and then I told her to floor it. Absolutely insane.

And she had a cheaper car insurance than you?
