So as many members know, I recently got a job at Disney World.
Well I put in my last day at work and now that's just hell. I recently got promoted at work it's been a little over a month, i've had the title just not the shirt. (it sounds weirder than it is) Anyways, one of the managers quit roughly 3 weeks ago. She got promoted to manager and then when she asked for a pay raise they said no. So she quit. Well tuesday I had to sit down with our General Manager and Operator and talk to them about what i was doing and blah blah. Well today I was on break and the GM comes in the back and he writes down a number on a piece of paper and says "How can I get you to stay?" He said they need my leadership and some other stuff icr. So my thing is it felt like he was trying to bribe me to stay. I texted my sister and her response was "that's stupid, they're offering to pay you more when you threaten to leave" and my mom said "take it as a compliment because they know how hard of a worker you are." I seriously don't know how to take it, I'm offended that they offer to give me a raise-once i leave. I've been working for the company for five years, and it's time for something new. I'm just confused on how to talk to my gm. My mom's scared that if disney isn't all it's made out to be that i can come home and still have a job. What should I do? He told me he was going to meet with me again on saturday and talk to me. Help please?

Is the job at Disney permanent or just like a 3/6 however many month thing? Cause if it is, you might be better staying where you are :/
also I thought you only recently started chik a fil? or is that something different? /nosey

Shouldn't be offended. It's a compliment more than anything.

i guess they had no major reason to give you a pay rise originally.. now you could be leaving they obviously want you to stay and that's a good thing.

I don't see the problem here, Nicole. If you play your hand right to could set yourself up quite nicely. I'd look at things like doubling your salary. I'd also ask for a guarantee in writing about things like management courses (if they run them), and set future targets that if you meet you will trigger bonuses/promotions etc.
Companies always try to pay people the minimum they can get away with, as they exist purely to create profits. Think of where you could go, and plan a path together that if you keep your end of the bargain, then you guarantee yourself development. |

Although a raise is a good thing, you have to follow your heart!! Go to Disney... -and send my free tickets- (last bit wasn't serious)

Oh, well I suppose you just have to do what you enjoy doing, no point doing a job you hate, even if it does pay more

Sounds like you are a really well respected and integral part of the team nicole, it's nice that they don't want you to leave...
It's up to you, if you're bored or there's no promotional prospects leave.. If you feel you you would stay with new challenges and a pay increase then stay

I wouldn't be offended Nicole a lot of companies would offer incentives for staff who they want to stay. Take it as a compliment. Is it a permanent position at disney? If not maybe see if your gm would hold your job or let you take it as a sabbatical? It sounds like they rate you highly so maybe they will be able to offer you something? Whatever happens you have to go with your heart.

I'd take it as a compliment.
They could just hire someone else but if they're willing to give you more money for you to do it then they must value you in some way. (OT - Am I the only one getting ads appearing on the forum? Like in nicole's opening post has the words "job" and "leave" with adverts popping out of them.) |

And like Smithy said do something you'd enjoy.. I just don't wake up every morning and think "This is where I want to be." It's usually I want out, to do something different. |

it depends on how much u hate or like the job u have now. as no matter how much they are prepared to pay u things will still be the same. I assume disneyland will be a once on a lifetime opportunity and i think u shud go for it.

If they value you as much as they say they may give you the chance to come back from your new job if you don't enjoy it.
You said it's time for change so honestly you should follow your heart, if you stay just for money you're going end up unhappy.
