Default What's the point of live feeds?

Especially on the weekends. When most of the time it's the hush hush screen?
Last Thursday down for over 8hours?
Friday 6hours I believe
Saturday A record 12 (or so) hours.
Now today. At least 12 & 1/2 hours.

the reason they keep its hush hush is so there is parts to the show on tv only so its gets ratings, also it so people have to actual watch afterwards to play the online game involved in trying to work out what happen, eg who won veto

It's stupid though - whether the feeds go off for half an hour or half a day within minutes of their return it's obvious who was nominated/won the Veto afterwards. There really is no need to take them off for more than an hour or so when such events take place, especially as the TV shows can only shows a matter of minutes of footage anyway, and most the reaction they show will be diary room entries anyway.

They may be free but it's not a good way to build a fanbase by blocking them for so long everytime something happens - and ultimately keeping things "hush hush" for hours on end will probably cost them viewers rather than boost the TV broadcast.

I realise they do it for ratings. IMO slice tv will lose ratings once their free preview is over in 10days, if they keep pulling the feeds for 1/2 the day.
I get the cant spoil anything, but really 12hours in a day?
It doesn't take them all that time to do stuff.

It's one thing the UK & AU have creditability. I really do believe they dont need 24/7 feeds to get people to watch. But this is Canadas first one. & they are royally stuffing it up with pulling the feeds for more than a few hours at a time.

I haven't watched a slice tv episode on the actual night since 2 weeks now. Now I just wait for them to upload it on their website, Nick it & watch it when I want to.

It's just me. But it's why I can't get into this one that much.

the 12 hours was due to the HOH comp being ridged/people cheating and them having to change have not comp to new HOH ect they didn't want to spoil any of that

You forgot to mention the only reason why they did decide to put them back on last saturday after @BigBrotherCA tweeted they were down for the rest of that day was because enough people b*tched & complained to them about it.

I came home today only to find out I had recoded 6 hours of hush hush screen. Joy.

Edit........

Or if can somehow justify why feeds have been down most of today that would be swell

This is my opinion.
Slice TV has royally Effed up their ratings & Big Brother Canada has royally Effed fans with all this hush hush crap. They have also IMO have downgraded the Big Brother name More than any other Country

They plug the "24 hour" live feed on the live show last night - and then black it out for the entire night and most the following day. Even in hte US they aren't that bad - it's rare for feeds to be out for more than an hour at a time, and even for bigger competitions or twists it's 2-3 hours at most usually (although they have had a couple of occassions when the feeds were cut for 24 hours due to a pre-recorded eviction).

At least there is a live feed. I'd be more than happy if BBUK had a Live Feed that only worked an hour a day. Better than nothing.

It's so stupid though to specifically plug the "24-hour" live feed at the end of the "live" eviction show and then not have them air for over 24 hours, apart from a brief period during After Dark.

The even more stupid thing is they are recording the live eviction shows, taking the feed off air while they do so (then a couple of hours longer), but every week they've restored the live feed for about half an hour before the show is broadcast, long enough to reveal the evictee - surely the one thing they really would want to keep "hush hush". And when the feeds did eventually return during the 24 hour blackout which featured the HoH comp within a couple of minutes of them returning you could identify the HoH anyway.

You overestimate the importance of live feeds so much. I wish they'd release stats of live feeds vs TV viewership so people would understand that live feeders make up quite a small percentage of people actually watching the show.

It's the production staffs first time doing this show. It's not like the US version where the staff have done it so much that they can toss the feeds down and get the work done quickly that needs to be done. There are technically problems, problems setting up and testing competitions, etc. It's more then just "oh they are shutting them down cause they want to save footage for the tv show".

End of the day, it's a tv show and the feeds are an extra benefit. The only people getting seriously butthurt over this are people that invest far too much time (which thankfully are a very small percentage).

Hopefully next year Global picks up airing the show. I can't see it surviving purely on Slice as the channels viewing audience is far too small.

It is you who underestimates the live feeds. Of course the numbers watching the broadcast shows is much bigger but it is the live feed which drives the show outside of these hours and arguably in these days of Twitter and Facebook that is more important now than it was when Big Brother began back in 1999.
