The Voice 2013 UK has been accused of ‘setting up’ its auditions.


Rejected singer Kavana has hit out at the BBC One series, claiming that his song choice was given to him and the studio set up went against his chances.

The 90s star, famous for his hit I Can Make You Feel Good, sung for coaches Jessie J, Will.i.am, Danny O’Donoghue and Sir Tom Jones, performing Don’t Dream It’s Over (Hey Now) by Crowded House.

But Kavana – real name Anthony Kavanagh – suggested that the song choice wasn’t his own.

He said: “I don’t want to seem like it’s sour grapes, bets that song I was given to seeing where is my last choice and not the song I wanted. ”

And Kavana also complained about the setup of the live band at the studio in Manchester, adding: “I couldn’t really hear the music when it started, which threw me.”

Kavana failed to get any of the four coaches to turn in his audition, with Danny remarking on his flat notes throughout the performance.

However a spokesperson for the show rebutted Kavana’s suggestion that the show was to blame for his failure.

They said: “The song choices are selected by the artists themselves and agreed with production in advance.”

What I don't get about the Voice is when they turn around they always recognise the ex stars, take that woman from Cleopatra for instance, how did Jessie recognise her given she was about 13 when she was in that group Same thing with the bloke who finished the show on Saturday name escapes me (the guy who had the record deal pulled), Danny starting banging on about how he could identify with him and how hard it was in the business...

Yeah that would explain the last guy on Saturday, but with Cleopatra, Jessie just turned round and asked if she was the girl from Cleopatra, and started warbling ..Cleopatra coming at ya...

Well, I suppose it's one of two things, she did genuinely recognize her or her name cos iirc it was hearing her name that she reacted to or they're told beforehand and all of it is a load of BS

I have only just started watching the Voice Cherie and have to say I quite enjoy it but like you I think the performers are not quite 'new' to the panel.

Unfortunately I'm beginning to think its a load of BS..

Don't know if you watch BGT but the lap dancing woman was one of the showgirls on Ant and Dec a few weeks ago (when they did the Las Vegas trip segment), so alot of these people are known already it seems.

These shows always start out genuine, and legit, and thats what makes them fresh and special. But then in the next few series, they become greedy, and try to control it by doing fake things, like pretending they dont know, someone, when they already do, or vice versa< JUST to orchestrate something dramatic. But what they dont understand, is they are not actors. So eventually eitheir viewers will see thru it, or contestants sell them out. Losing the genuine unrehearsed format, that made it cool to begin with!

Xfactor, American Idol , are guilty of the same things, trying to get the desired results they want!

Thats why, they are all going down the crapper. Greed! Itsa shame.

I don't watch BGT but I hate that they do that, I would love an actual honest show............it's never going to happen though! Still, I have to say i enjoy The Voice more than the others

Yeah I agree, I know they have to make a programme out of it but sometimes it's just so fake its embarrassing. Last Saturday's "walkout" by Alesha and Amanda being a case in point!

I do watch BGT, I didn't see the Ant and Dec bit,but it doesn't surprise me as I know I have seen that woman impressionist somewhere(sure her name was Franceen) or something like that ,I'm sure she's been on something before.

Kavana audition wasn't really memorable anyway. But there have been great singers who have been rejected.
