..I'll be interested what people's views are on this because I can see both sides..the group of guys don't appear to be threatening in any way but at the same time, I can't blame the McDonalds workers for being cautious either..maybe the compromise would have been to keep the doors locked, but do the transaction at the door..?...

I've worked closing shift before, not at Mcdonalds, but in food service. 10 minutes before closing pretty much everything is set up to close. Don't come to Mcdonalds or any Restaurant right before closing and expect anything. You are lucky to get scraps.

A general rule for all food service establishments, the REAL closing time is 30 minutes BEFORE the actual closing time. Come 30 minutes before close, fine, don't come in after that. The last 30 minutes of any closing time is just for the people already eating to finnish. Don't show up at 11:59 and expect to order food.

I have no sympathy at all for those idiots.

All she had to do was say that there was nothing left, and in order to provide them with food it would mean staying open past 12. She doesn't need to be a total twat about it.

There was once instance I had when i worked at a sandwich shop where we locked the doors 10mins early, and we let in our friends that worked at the blockbusters next door, we used to trade sandwiches with them and they'd give us free movie rentals, and some idiots started banging on the doors "HEY!! WHY ARE YOU LETTING THEM IN BUT YOU WON'T LET US IN" and getting all uppity.

The shop is CLOSED, now **** off, period. there is no discussion to be had. **** off.
People feel so entitled, and treat people that work in shops like ****.

That doesn't make sense. If he'd been doing something before, as you claimed, she could have said "look, I'm really sorry, but you were all doing those chavvy things, and banging on the glass". She didn't, she opened the door to confront them for no reason.

The debate is about the treatment of the customers by the slaves. Whoops, I meant food service workers expected to be civil.

If you want a Mcdonalds that ****ing bad, then you should'nt have waited until 10 mins before closing.

This should be a lesson to everyone, you should assume that at least 30 minutes before the actual closing, they start closing 30 minutes before.

The actual closing time is when everyone MUST be out of the store, it doesn't mean that you can come in at 11:59 order food and eat. The closing time is the time that the entire shop closes. so if at 11:50 there are no more customers we will lock the doors. if there are still people eating, we will wait til 12 to kick them out.

Here's another aspect you need to think about, the manager of these shops will yell at the employee's if they take too long to close up, that's why they start closing up early, because the manager doesn't want to have to pay anyone overtime. If we don't start closing up early, that means we will be there later closing everything, and then we get yelled at for not closing up fast enough, because the owner doesn't want to have to pay overtime.

The Owner of the shop expects us to be able to close everything up, clean the whole place, do all the dishes, and do all the books at the end of the night. There were plenty of nights when i first started when i got yelled at for staying too late. The only way to avoid staying too late, is to start the closing process as soon as possible.

..Arista..this is not only a section for news stories, it's for serious debates as well...I wasn't trivialising this story, just because the source was facebook..?..there are 'two sides' to this and I was genuinely interested in the views of others...I don't know if anything happened before the vid was recorded on his phone, but the guys recording it didn't appear to me to be threatening in any way...but I do also understand the caution of the employees if there have been other unpleasantb incidents before..and they are very vulnerable, especially late at night...

...if this is in the wrong section then it will be moved and that's no problem, Arista..but it is also quite a serious subject as well...especially for anyone who is in the position of working in a fast food outlet on late shifts...or anyone doing late shifts really..?....anyway, I respect the mods decision in this because no matter which part of the forum it's in, the subject remains a serious one.....

That's a contractual matter, and should have no bearing on either the service provided, or the opening times of the store. If the workers are contracted till 12, then change the opening hours of the store to close at 11.30. You can also write it in to contracts that workers are expected to stay later, as required, without having to pay them over time.

contractual matter? what are you talking about? part-time workers do not have CONTRACTS.

Which means if they(the owner) are unhappy with your performance, they can just cut your hours or fire you.

It's not a CONTRACTUAL MATTER at all. there are no contracts when you work part-time. You've obviously never worked in food service.

It's not just the punks side. He has that woman on video, and she would have said something like "you were the guys throwing bricks at the window" if they'd been up to anything. They obviously hadn't been.
