Default Should Alcohol be banned?

Well considering a lot of people are against Smoking and all sorts of Drugs, should Alcohol also be banned? I know it's not a Drug but it does cause drink driving accidents every year, people being out of their mind and can't control their actions as easily, people getting so addicted that their insides rot away, and the fact that a lot of Police have to deal with the drunks day in and day out when they could be dealing with other crimes is a waste of resources when you could just ban the stuff.

I know I hold a very unpopular opinion but it's just how I feel? What do you think?

Because prohibition has been such a stunning success whenever it has been implemented

No. Prohibition would be a further waste of time, throwing people in cages every time they're caught with vodka. Cigarettes and other drugs shouldn't be illegal either.

No... but considering the amount of tax revenue that's generated from alcohol, there should be more help available for people who develop problems.

I wouldn't support it being banned, great numbers enjoy socialising with it and the vast majority cause no problems for anyone else at all.

However, I do agree it should be increased in price as was the original idea to bring in likely minimum pricing for it.
I also think controls of the sales of alcohol in supermarkets could also help a bit.
Make it that all supermarkets have to have alcohol sold from one section of the store only as is the case with all cigarette/tobacco sales.
Not to have displays of cheap alcohol almost poured down your throat from the minute you enter the supermarket and generally at the top and bottom of most aisles in the store too.

increase minimum prices at the supermarket, give pubs some kind of tax breaks as the drinking consumption can at least be observed in a pub by experienced publicans, rather than drinking oneself to a coma alone at home.....finally education education education , instead of mindlessly hyping booze teach people the risk it causes and frankly how it disrupts and ruins lives

I think the pubs of the near future will be more like health bars, where people can go and drink carrot juice, play pool, eat steaks , play music and watch the lions on sky sports

You can't unring the bell. Alcohol is a massive part of society, even if it was banned, the market for it would still be there, and as said in this thread, crime would fill that void and supply it. But I do think if it was only discovered today, it would be way more regulated, if not illegal.

Would you close down all zoos if one person was eaten by a lion?

People are gonna use and misuse everything around them

No, because then where do you stop?

Banning the sale of all sharp objects because some nutter chooses to stab someone?
Banning all clothing because someone strangled their friend with a belt?

Making alcohol illegal would also most likely put more strain on the police and not help them like you suggest. Wasting their time and resources arresting and charging people for so much as possessing alcohol instead of concentrating on the actual criminals.

I get what you are saying Mocky, imo drink has far more to answer to than cigarettes, drugs infact most other addictions,it impacts on health, personality, and affects more than the drinkers life.I dont think it could be banned as some people do enjoy it sensibly,it's hard to know what to do to reduce the affects of drink other than to raise the drinking age, stiffer penalties for drink drivers, make it more expensive ,but yes,I get totally what you're saying.

Wouldn't do any good. It doesn't work for other drugs, wouldn't work for alcohol. Especially because it's so easy to make alcohol at home, and usually that alcohol is even stronger than what you buy at the store.

Alcohol isn't the problem, addiction is the problem.

All drugs should be legal, there's no reason alcohol should be treated any differently. The illegality of drugs doesn't prevent drug use (which really doesn't need to be prevented in the first place) but just makes violent criminals wealthy and destroys lives.

Only cannabis out of those drugs should be made legal. Everything else can be decriminalised - it's up to the user and all but no way should coke be sold in shops, etc.
