Never particularly liked the GTA games. Amazes me how much hype surrounds them. |

Grand Theft Auto is better in general imo, but SR 3 > GTA IV

Saints Row fell off a tiny bit to the second one, but was still decent. It became hot **** for the third one though. GTA IV>>>Saints Row in almost everyway.

I do like the Saints Row games but the gameplay, design and stories just weren't as interesting as GTA's for me.
Plus the direction the series have both gone in for their next games says a lot...

Saint's Row, GTA4 takes itself too seriously. I miss the lunacy of the older games.

people who rate GTA 4 the worst of the series need slapping
![]() obviously ignoring the first two since they weren't the same Vice City > 3 > 4 > San Andreas (loved some of the customisability, but the story was pretty poor IMO)

forgot 3
![]() put that 2nd because it defined the whole series, and set the tone for the future games with the gameplay options and format... also loved the soundtrack, how dark and gritty it all was, and the story ![]() ![]()

Hated SR2, currently playing SR3 and loving it. GTA 4, absolute tripe.

GTA IV wasnt that bad, it just wasnt as good as the older ones, GTA V looks pretty damn good.
To be honest there's no point comparing the franchises at this point, one is a crime thriller, one is an open world superhero parody game with aliens. |

GTA 4, for me, had too many bad points. Found it okay at best. Those controls still give me nightmares. *Shudders*

A lot more of the fun stuff was later added in the Gay Tony DLC, which brought back some of the more crazy aspects (stealing a subway car with a sky crane among other missions). I think they realised they went a little too much down the serious route.

Anyone who five years on sees GTA IV as anything less than brilliant probably needs a good sit down. It's got it's boring bits and suffers from repetitive mission structuring and some dull conventions but on the whole it's a living, breathing work of art that is fun as hell to play and holds up quite well all these years on with repeat playthroughs.
It's not as fun as Saints Row 2, which for me really captured the zeitgeist of the time when everyone gave IV the inevitable backlash but oddly this only seemed to come full form for most people with the awful follow up that had annoying enemy encounters, worse customization options a nonsense story and quite possibly the most uninspired map in the history of a free roaming game. It made True Crime : Streets Of L.A. look inspired for christ sake. Saints Row The Third is essentially what happens when the company behind a slightly funny television commercial realise that they have a slightly funny television commercial and then use their creative dicks to drill it into the ground. So GTA, basically. How could you not. It's GTA. Oh and the code is : SA > III > IV > VC The Stories and Episodes chapters are all terrific. Last edited by Stu; 02-07-2013 at 03:32 PM. |

I don't think anything will ever top Vice City for me when it comes to the GTAs. I ****ing loved that game. It was perfection. Everything else that came after it has just felt a little flat to me, SA was good but eh.

GTA as a series is incredibly overrated.
Gameplay is average at best (being generous, combat sucks). Story's are good but nothing amazing. Missions are pretty short and only really get interesting at the end of their arcs. Never a whole lot to do in the world aside from going on rampages. They nail characters brilliantly, but outside of that I really don't rate the series. Sleeping Dogs is way ahead of either. |

It's got bundles of character and that carries it through. You can sell it short in derivative statements but I'd much rather drive around GTA's world doing nothing that driving around Sleeping Dog's doing something. Sleeping Dogs when I played it struck me as one of those games that just tacked on the open world gameplay because it was in vogue. The city itself is this bland spine for the rest of the game to take place on. It doesn't feel connected or alive in the slightest.
Whatever, though. |

Yeah, we feel very differently about both these games
![]() I loved Sleeping Dog's Hong Kong, for me it is the world where I could literally drive around doing nothing, listening to Ninja Tune Radio while taking in the beautiful setting and neon lights of the city. I felt immersed. And to top it off, it went beyond being enjoyable through character - it had genuinely great gameplay mechanics, and not just for this style of game. Personally a top 5 game of this gen. |

Finished SR3 a few hours back. Loved it.
Just been looking at SR4. Looks like Saints Row with Prototype mixed in. ![]() Last edited by Ryan57; 04-07-2013 at 05:10 PM. |

Saints Row is the juvenile, low brow, knock-off version of GTA. It will never ever match up in quality to any Grand Theft Auto title.
