The Haunting in Connecticut 2 - 5/10 - This was 'alright'.. watchable with a few jumpy scenes although I couldn't see any connections at all to the first movie
Calvary - 7/10 - Pretty decent, laughed out loud at a few parts (was the guy behind the bar the 'I shot JR' guy from Father Ted btw? ) disliked the ending though. Into The Woods - 6.5/10 - Saw this at the pictures today, wasn't what I was expecting, Johnny Depp wasn't in it for very long but apart from some bits dragging a bit I think it was a good movie. Ah thanks Nimah, Stuart said it was him but I wasn't too sure
I don't watch any where near as much as I used to because we don't have a good internet speed at all. |

The Interview
major disappointment. The plot was incredibly rushed, the characters were trite and irritating, the comedy was largely based on either dick jokes, borderline racism (I'm so over Hollywood's idiotic Korea jibes... like since when was a dictatorship an excuse to do slanty-eye impressions?) or celebrity cameos... I normally love Franco/Rogen films, probably because they're laidback and not trying to be satirical about one issue let alone two (N.Korea and vacuous celebrity-culture), but this just blowed. All I can recall liking about it was the soundtrack and Joseph Gordon Levitt being crowded by puppies. 2/10. I have revised this to a 4/10 after the ending Firework montage

The Purge: Anarchy - it was ok, but I think i prefered the original, surely they could have just hidden in a bin or something till the night was over rather than running round the whole on NY

Battleship- Let me just say that I had zero hope of finding anything good about this movie at all. It had a rating of 2 stars on Netflix, and if my memory serves, about a 2/10 from the general media when it came out. That being said it wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen. Script wise... yeah someone could have put more effort into dialogue, and who even knows why Rhianna was there... but we made the movie into the game Battleship in our minds, and we got to yell out "you sank my battleship" alot which made us laugh so I give it a rating that is much higher than I thought it would be:
5/10 The Imitation Game So so so so so so good!!! Knew it would be good but it exceeded my expectations. Cumberbatch was brilliant, and I was even surprised how Keira Knightly performed. Cast was superb all around, story well written and compelling, and a really good family movie to be honest. I find no fault. 10/10

Carrie - 5/10 - newest one, never thought much of it tbh, don't think the actress was suited to the part and the best one in it was Julianne Moore.
Stand By Me - 9/10 - Still amazing no matter how many times I've watched it. Honey I Shrunk The Kids - 6/10 - It is what it is. Young Guns - 8/10 - Brilliant movie with a great cast, first time I have rewatched it in years. |

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy -- 9/10 -- I am a big fan of Le Carre, and loved the TV version with Sir Alec Guiness, and Oldman is brilliant and in the same vein.
The Babbadook -- 5/10 -- A few jumpy moments, but a weak ending. Lethal Weapon -- 8/10 -- Pure escapist enjoyment, and the 'buddy, buddy' relationship with Gibson and Glover is well written and superbly acted. Zombieland -- 7/10 -- Not much new but Woddy Harrelson is great and it's an highly enjoyable comic romp. |

I saw 50 Shades on the weekend...
It wasn't as bad as other posts on the site made me think it would be. Try to censor me man, and it will just make me want to watch/read if more 7/10 The Theory of Everything- wasn't what I was expecting as it dealt with his personal life more than his career, but still an amazing watch... and well acted!!! 9/10

Whiplash - 9/10
It had a kind of Fincher feel about the direction, just a really dark and tense drama that was full of violence and intimidation... Simmons was fantastic, and probably one of the scariest and most intense characters I've seen on film in a long time... and Miles Teller was pretty great and sympathetic as the protagonist too. I'm really unfamiliar with the jazz world so it was an interesting film to me (although I understand a lot of jazz fans aren't happy with the idea that ruthless, play-until-you-bleed practice is what it takes to be great).
